Colors colors colors..HELP
Ok, so lately my new favorite color is cranberry red. Love it. My future Mother in law wants to make a double wedding ring quilt for Derek and I. SHe asked for the colors I want, but I am blank. I don't want green, too Christmasy. Not blue...too patriotic!!! HELP!!!
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
How about a cream or white...they look fabulous together!
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
Hmmm. I'm no quilter but know what a wedding ring quilt looks like at least. I'm assuming that the background will be ivory or white and that you want to colors for the rings - his and hers.
Deep Cranberry is beautiful combined with other, similarly deep shades. I would suggest an eggplant or, perhaps a mustard (not quite as pretty). If you really like green or blue, try a deep teal. I could even see a rich shade of brown working.
My favorite so far is the Eggplant, though. On a muslin or even deeper linen background, it would look lovely.
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
My friend suggested a royal purple. I told Derek "how about Crimson and Gold" USC colors. He said "What about Manchester United colors"? I said "Those are red and white? he said yes and I said well the background will be white!!! He said OK!!!!
Wow such pressure here
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
I always like wedding quilts to be done in the colors of the Bridal party. The colors in my wedding were Navy Blue, White and Silver so that is what I asked my mom to make mine in (she hasn't made it yet!) Your home decor will change over the years, so it will be impossible to always match. And that way it will always remind you of the day you got married as soon as you see it.
Our first bedroom, right after we got married, I decorated it entirely in our wedding colors, right down to dark blue walls, silver pillows, stark white furniture and my wedding boquet as wall decoration! It was interesting looking, but romantic.
I also love red. Lately I have been gravitating towards really deep cranberry and rusty reds- not stop sign red. I have found I have been able to easily incorporate those colors into my decor. I think red would be gorgeous.
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
How about cranberry and black, go the goth route (TheBob would be so proud).
I can ask one of my best friends what she thinks as she's a quilter. I'll let you know what she says.
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
OK D-kat here's what she said:
Well, anything would go with it really. Purple would be pretty, as would
yellow. Even a lighter shade of cranberry - one dark and one light, would be
pretty. It just depends on the overall color scheme she wants it to look
like. Does she want it to look airy and springtimy? Then I would do something
lighter like yellow. If she wants it a little darker like if they have a lot
of dark furniture in their house, then I would go with something like purple
or another shade of cranberry. The thing to remember with quilting is that
you just want them in the same value range. If she's advanced enough to make a wedding ring quilt, she should be pretty good at picking her colors...?
A wedding ring quilt is pretty complicated and difficult. I don't even know if
I would attempt one (not that I'm a professional or anything, but I've been
quilting for 7 years now). If she's really uncertain, I would suggest she
pick her cranberry fabric first, then take a swatch to a quilting store and
have the ladies help her pick her secondary fabric. Those ladies are pros
and are really good at helping you find complementary fabrics.
Anyway, hope that helps!!!!
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
I agree with what O-nut posted.
If possible go to a quilt store and look at fabrics. The folks at those shops will have excellent suggestions. One thing to remember is you don't always need to have different colors. You can stay within the same color family and use patterned fabric.

Well my future mother in law works at a quilt store LOL She just wants ideas on what we want. I'm about as undecided as I am about wedding colors right now

Cranberry and black. Cool Goth quilt!
Re: Colors colors colrs..HELP
Actually, the cranberry with black on the ivory background would be stunning and beautiful. :)
