Disney park bows Art of Animation

Cartoon showcase aimed to educate

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Disneyland has unveiled Art of Animation, which aims to educate parkgoers about the toon process.

The attraction consists of a life-size Zoetrope, a mechanism that creates an illusion of motion from the rapid movement of static pictures. It takes visitors through the history of Disney toons, running from cel animation classics such as "Snow White" through CGI pics including "Toy Story" and "Ratatouille."

Art of Animation is the last of four improvements for this year. The theme park has been plagued by poor attendance and license fee disagreements with Disney since its opening in 2005, as well as criticisms that it is too small.

Where exactly has this Art of Animation exhibit has been placed? Or are we talking about the Animation Academy on Main Street USA??

Art of Animation replaced the Hong Kong Disneyland Story.
1st surprise is a big Toy Story Merry-Go-Around Machine, with many Woodys, Buzzs, etc.
2nd surprise is that a door is built to connect with Animation Academy. 'Students' will exit from that door now. What a good idea

That's too bad. I loved The Disneyland Story exhibit.

I do too, but for some reason, they feel it is imperative to teach the chinese audience more about the Disney animation characters and legacy. Sometimes I find it hard to believe the Chinese would not know more about that since they do have access to Disney films... even if they are pirated and sold on street markets..

I'll start... Pixie Hallow meet and greet, real life Wall-e meet and greet, It's a small world holiday......humm and Sleeping Beauty Castle Dioramas? It's hard to think of anything with no budget.

ORWEN: I was thinking the same thing as you were, wishyouwell, duckling--about the Sleeping Beauty Castle dioramas, I mean. After all, they've already got the right castle there for it. And a long time ago somebody in the know said that when Hong Kong's Castle was built a castle walk-thru was considered, along with a few other ideas. So, I'm keeping my eyes crossed just in the hopes it'll happen.

ORWEN: First of all, old biddy, I'm not an idiot!! And I'm certainly smart enough to know you can't keep your fingers crossed at the same time you're holding a Krispy Kreme in both hands!! Duh!!!
