HONG KONG (AFX) - Disneyland is planning to build a second theme park in Hong Kong, The Standard reported citing the company's chairman George Mitchell.
Reclamation work has already begun near the theme park, Mitchell said.
'Eventually, the addition of an entire new theme park adjacent to the current park will transform the site into a true multi-day destination resort,' he said.
The report also quoted Financial Secretary Henry Tang as saying that the government expects construction of the second phase to start as early as 2010.
The paper said the first phase is expected to draw 5.6 mln visitors in its first year and create 18,000 jobs. It is expected to generate revenue of 148 bln hkd over 40 years.
The government owns 57 pct of the theme park.
