Re: Expansion deal reached on Hong Kong Disneyland-report

The three new themed areas are "Grizzly Trail", "Mystic Point" and "Toy Story Land". They will feature 30 new attractions - including thrill rides - bringing the total to over 100. This will enhance Hong Kong Disneyland's appeal, Ms Lau said, and be beneficial for the long-term development of the tourism industry.
Grizzy Trail and Mystic Point will be exclusive among Disney theme parks worldwide, and Toy Story Land will be exclusive within the Asian region, for five years from their opening.

i misunderstood your comment but you had mentioned it would take 3 to five years to build.

I just wanted to point out that the first phase of expansion is due to open in 2 to three years not 3 to five. The last land along with other improvements not mentioned will be done by five years

I think if construction is begin later this year, Toy Story Land will break ground first for a 2010 opening. The park desperately needs a tent pole for its 5th anniversary.

that might be possible, i was just going by the timeline i was given a couple months back. If they did accomplish a 2010 opening i would think it would be a late 2010. the installation of the attractions would probably not take long but the manufacturing and installation of the overlays usually take a bit longer. Disney also puts their attractions through several weeks of testing after install.

A year seems kind of tight for a Disney timeline.

    hmm
The expansion, which will cost about HK$3.6 billion, will include 30 new attractions and three new theme areas, and will see the total area of Hong Kong Disneyland increase by 23 per cent over five years.

I heard the rumor that they're going to make it a separate park, Disney's Hong Kong Adventure.

I think Disney has already said sometime ago that the ground work (land preparation) has been done and they could move quickly as soon as plans are confirmed, so 2010 might be possible and they can tie in with Toy Story 3, due to be released in June next year.
