HKDL vs The New Macau Fisherman's Wharf (Plus something new...)

I wonder if the soon to be opened Macau Fisherman's Wharf will affect the attendance at HKDL.

The New Macau Fisherman's Wharf has announced the soft opening on 31th Dec. 2005.

The Macau Fisherman's Wharf is the 1st themed attraction at Macau.
The total investment of the project is anticipated to reach HKD1.9 billion. The project occupies an area of over 93,000mē, combining entertainment, retail, food, hotel, marina, convention and exhibition facilities in one place.
Macau Fisherman's Wharf opens 24 hours, with no admission fee. The operation hours of all the rides are from 10am to 9pm everyday and tickets are available at the ticketing booths.
There will be 2 indoor rides within the 40-meter man-made volcano as well as the 4 kiddy rides at the Aladdin's Fort.

The expected annual attendance at Macau Fisherman's Wharf : 15 million

I hadn't heard of this but I think it is great. Disney needs competition to keep them on there toes and always doing their best.

Hold up...expected annual attendance...15 million? Is this like a mall-type thing too? I mean I saw free and all that will help attendance...but 15 million? Wow. All the power to them I guess.

Re: HKDL vs The New Macau Fisherman's Wharf

Macau is also becoming a big gambling destination with nearly all the big names here building a hotel. Steve Wynn (think Mirage/Treasure Island), the Venetian, and MGM Grand chiefly among them.

Family Vegas didn't work but I wonder if vacationing families will have a presence at Macau, especially with this? Here they're actively discouraging families now, but without the whole Sin City mystique and a completely different culture in China, I wonder what the odds are that Kiddie Casinos could make a comeback?

Re: HKDL vs The New Macau Fisherman's Wharf

It is kinda like an integrated entertainment/retail/conference/casino concept. I suppose the retail shop(mall) is open 24 hours a day and no admission charged for shopping/browsing, but the rides are not free-of-charge, and u have to pay to ride them.

and yes...they expect annual attendance to be 15 million.

Wow some of those areas look nice. Some look far too generic. It overall looks like a big themed area put out by people with lots of money.

But does it have heart?

I have just watched the news report on TV about the soft opening of Macau Fisherman's Wharf, they said they have attracted over 50,000 people today's soft opening. Even bigger than the opening of HK Disneyland????

Yeah you know the very first photo they show on that site show planters with trees planted and just dirt around it. In this day and age I think horticulture is so important hence giving things time to grow. That was a pretty sad thing to see.
Enough picking it apart though. It's not like it has 50,000 people for it's rides alone. It's shopping seems to be its big draw. People don't go to Disneyland to shop (sorry Pressler) so I think it might be competition and I'd go for one near me but I don't know how it is going to really take away from Ocean Park or HKDL.

The shopping mall hasn't opened yet.

Re: HKDL vs The New Macau Fisherman's Wharf

Here in Los Angeles, we have The Grove, which is like a Main Street USA with Banana Republic, Apple Store, The Gap and Nordstrom with a bright green double decker trolley bus and old fashioned lamp posts. There are no rides but it's more enjoyable than Disneyland's crowded and predictable Main Street, and better than either Downtown Disney Anaheim or Universal CityWalk.

Re: HKDL vs The New Macau Fisherman's Wharf

So the mall has not opened yet? Well that is shocking. But I guess the Disneyland train (transportation line) had over 10,000 people ride it it's first day...they must like first days.

Wow.

Any1 interested in "HelloKittyLand"?

"HelloKittyLand" will be built in Macau. There will be a 4-star hotel. One of the companies behind this project is a japanese company, probably associated with the HelloKittyLand in Japan.
