Re: Monster on Mainstreet
I think we have to wait until it's completely finished before passing judgment. If the steel is painted white and some decorative trim is put on it, it will look appropriate to the era.
Still, it does look like an elephant shoehorned into a frog's rectum.

It's really sad to see those beautiful buildings being torn down. They were the final works of John Hench. John Hench was responsible for tuning the colours in Main Street U.S.A., Hong Kong Disneyland before he passed away in 2004. This video not only serves as a record of the changing in Hong Kong Disneyland, but also a tribute to the Disney Legend who gave this town a finishing touch with his magical brush.

Welcome to MiceChat, HKMSGEditor! Love your blog, there aren't a lot of opportunities on the net for current updates from HKD, so I referenced yours a lot in planning my trip out there last month.
Keep us up to date, if you'd be so kind, as to how the new 'monstructure' turns out!
Re: Monster on Mainstreet
Wow that thing really blocks the Detail around the buildings around it. Seems a bit too big
Re: Monster on Mainstreet
IŽd like to call that monster the worst addition in any Disney park ever. It is just wrong.

Gah!!!!! That's worse than the time WDW expanded THEIR Emporium into THEIR Center St and this is coming from someone who never saw it in person.
Anyway as always,
See ya walkin' right down the middle of o'l Main Street USA
Re: Monster on Mainstreet
While I agree we will have to wait to see what it is in the end, currently I am have to also agree that it in no way fits the architecture of the era, paint it all you want, it will still distract from the flow. We can only hope it is just somerandom frame work to a building that will blend in well.
Re: Monster on Mainstreet
I understand the popcorn lighting on the semi-circular front side of this glass canopy is being lit at night with the rest of the buildings on Main Street, and I am dying to see if it actually looks better at night with the lights on. Anyone has pictures?

Re: Monster on Mainstreet
Now that's one ugly thing!! What did WDI think when designing this terrible structure?
