I think HKDL should consider adding TSMM to Toy Story Land to make the land complete. With elaborate queue and facade. It is a quick fix and that the ride is very popular. Also, it could be considered a "dark ride" which TSL lacks of.

Other than that, they don't need any clone anymore. If HK Legislative Council could approve more budget, they could start build a new land.

The last thing the park needs is another land. Why should the smallest Disneyland of all have the most lands? The park needs rides in the lands. Adventureland is the most boring place on earth and there is alot fantasy needed to have fun in Fantasyland.

Well it seems to me that HKDL has a trend to build mini-land that holds one enchore attractions and other theming to support the area. I kind of like that style. I might be a different take than other Magic Kingdom in the world. I love Adventureland and its main attraction which is the biggest Jungle Crusie in all Disney Parks. Besides, I don't think they have much room left for the expansion of AL. Fantasyland could need some work but I am thinking if Little Mermaid is coming to Shanghai then to clone LM to HK is probably not that good of an idea. I am not sure how much room left for the adding major rides in Tommorowland either. I could be wrong.

Land or not, what I do believe is they do need more dark rides. It could get very hot and rainy in the HK for most time of the year.

In my opinion, you're both right. Look: the main problem is that the park needs more stuff to do. New rides in existing lands is one way to do it, but that's not necessarily exclusive from adding new lands with new rides. Both add more rides - in the end addressing the main problem. Yes, HKDL's lands might be sparse, but if they continue to add attractions, regardless of whether it's packaged as a 'new' land or not, then I can't see that as anything other than a development healthy for the park as a whole.

    Very much agreed!!!

Although new lands seem much easier to market than new rides, but we know that HKDL needs depth in attraction not breadth.

    Day 3

Been busy all week with college stuff - finally getting some much needed free-time and time to post pics on the forums. On Day 4, I got to FINALLY get a preview to GG thanks to a friend so I'll be uploading those pics tomorrow morning with some in this post. Day 3 is just some pics from the Golden Mickeys.

I'm way too tired to post all the GG pics right now, but here are some anyways:

    Day 4, Part 1

Definitely the most thrilling and satisfying ride at the park. There were CMs surveying APs and according to them, the land has gotten an overwhelmingly positive response - which is great!

The mountain itself is pretty small (as with everything EXCEPT Mystic Manor at the park) but superbly detailed like Mt. Prometheus at TDS (can't believe I'm actually comparing something at HKDL to TDS).

Mystic Manor is coming out fine - though with all the colors and the cartoony look, its not going to be as haunted and dark as I wanted it to be.

ORGCOH: That there Gizzard Gulch may just be the thing ta git more respect fer poor ol' Ping Pong Dizzyland. Folks might just start pourin' from all over the place and make lots a money fer the place so's they can add even more stuff!

ORDDU: Thank you for the photos of my favorite man in a loin clother, dear. You know how much I love Tarzan.

ORWEN: So are you living back in Hong Kong permanently, HKDLFAN, duckling?

Like many, I am quite disappointed with not so dark direction Mystic Manor has taken, but the detail on that roof is gorgeous!

I think I'm okay with a toony, funny, Mystic Manor as long as the effects are immersive and phenomenal.

I think it should be ok given the land is not selling the haunted theme, but rather a supernatural story. I also remember reading mansion owner Lord Henry Mystic is an eccentric and lonely collector, so a clean mansion with weird color/design combination may suit well.

This is a big reason why I'm not coming back to HKDL this year. They're very clearly underdosed on pixie dust.

I've contacted one of the higher ups of HKDL and, I'm paraphrasing here, he acknowledges that it's disappointing when the CMs don't get what the Disney experience is all about.

Needless to say, I'm sure they're aware of it, and that some of the negative encounters I had were not part of company policy (the lack of a doggie bag I mentioned in my last trip report).

Sadly no, I'm only here for a month (July). Though I will be here again in spring 2013 - when Mystic Point opens!

    Day 4, Part 2

I'll be at the park tomorrow to snap a couple more pics and hopefully get some TSL nighttime photos given that it gets closed well before nightfall.

The entrance of GG is MASSIVE. Too open, spaced, wide and Tokyo Disney-ish. Quite unlike most parts of HKDL. Hopefully that means that this space is temporary and something is in the pipeline to fill it up.

Though this land feels rather empty in terms of buildings (There's just two, the fragmented queue buildings don't count and neither do the really small Geyser Gulch ones), the sight of mine cars twisting all over the land is an attraction itself.

Once you enter the town itself, it gets very crowded. The small area with the land's two attractions, it's shop and snack shop, was really cramped with the AP crowd - so you can imagine how hellish normal every-day crowds will be. ALL that space leading up to the town is a waste, waste, waste! It's really annoying since the town (however small and few buildings it may have) is superbly detailed - more so than Frontierlands at other parks.

Nice bit of humor there: there's a white panel behind the steam engine with the words "Never Fail" on it - which is obviously a blatant lie!

Though there's not much to do (Lets face it, BGM and Geyser Gulch cater to two very distinct and narrow age-groups), there's ALOT to see around the land.

From here, the town looks quite good. Quaint, authentic and immersive BUT those buildings are all part of the bloated queue line (If Space Mountain's queue line is 1/3 full at max most days, what are the chances BGM's queue will even be 1/4 full?). Seriously, the queue is massive - not just the really big indoors bit, but the beautiful outdoors section too.

BGM broke down for several hours on opening day - technical failure with the blast mechanism in the dynamite caves.

Re: [Very Photo Heavy] HKDLFAN's Summer 2012 Trip Report

I really love Grizzly Gulch. I think I might even like it more than Cars Land. I only wish there were more things to do there.

Is Grizzly Mountain intense or is it a tame family ride? It does not look that tall from the pictures and it seems like the drops are less than those in Thunder Mountain. Does it seem like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? It definitely does not seem as high as Expedition Everest.

Um... Think of it as Big Thunder Mountain 2.0. The technology is certainly more advanced aided by creative storytelling by the Imagineers. And that is basically what singles Grizzly Gulch out from the rest of the Frontierlands, it has a story and you are immersed in it as soon as you enter the land. Even the massive entrance to the land serves as a prologue to the story that's being told about the town with bones hidden in the bushes and bear tracks all over the floor.

I really would rank Grizzly Gulch above the other Frontierlands if it didn't just have one ride. As for the ride itself, it's not tame at all. The blast from the dynamite cave is more intense than it looks and the drops here are faster, longer and bigger than those of Big Thunder Mountain. Its miles away from the ferocity of Expedition Everest so it can be considered a family ride - though I'm not sure if every kid can handle it. And Im quite sure its much more intense than the Snow White coaster. Hope that answers your questions.
