Man, this is almost exactly what I wanted them to do for the Innoventions building in DLR Tomorrowland. Just replace the ride system from motion simulator to that of Transformers and it'd be solid.

So Iron Man Experience, or as some have called this Stark Tours, continues the trend of HKDL of mashing together different ride experiences into one (Expedition Everest+ Big Thunder Mountain + Grizzly River Run = Big Grizzly Mountain, Haunted Mansion + Tiki Room + Museum of the Weird = Mystic Manor), and this one will be Marvel + Star Tours + Soarin' = Iron Man Experience.

Makes for a good way to address the lack of multiple attractions, but can also make one feel shortchanged.

Re: New Announcement expected today: Marvel attraction...Iron man ?

Interestingly this time there is no talk of any exclusivity clause, only Bill Ernest mentioned "bragging rights" for HKDL guests.

MiceAge talks about Disneyland (Anaheim) building Star Wars Land in their latest update, so it is not likely for Iron Man to go there as well in the short term. Marvel is no-no at WDW. So the US parks won't have this ride.

That leaves Shanghai, Tokyo and Paris. Since Bill Ernest talked about bragging rights, I assume it won't be built in Shanghai.

Tokyo? If the ride is indeed based on ST2, then I can't see it happening either. Oh I just read Robert Niles (themeparkinsider)'s excellent article about copyrights and he wrote Marvel is not allowed in Disney Parks in Japan, just like WDW. http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201307/3558/

Paris, still stuck on ST1 and has plenty of space to fill in WDS, is most likely the second resort to have this ride in the future. But its finances are poor and Alain Littaye of Disneyandmore recently wrote an article about how the park will focus on refurbishment and Ratatouille first.

Therefore I think HKDL will enjoy this ride exclusively for a long time.

The only other park that this ride would work reasonably well in is Paris. The rest have all gotten Star Tours 2.0. Paris is also in a more desperate situation than Hong Kong for this attraction IMO. They haven't built anything major in that park since it's opening, only a few renovations here and there.

So, my logic: when a disney film goes trilogy, it wins a new ride. And possibly, the ride will be shown up in HKDL first.
(This applies for Toy Story, Ironman. I am not sure things wouldn't change after SHDL opens. That hulk or Captain America would need some more effort, monster inc is waiting for the chance, too)
I reckon nothing would named Stark Tower in HKDL, as Stark Tower will means Avenger Tower in the theme. In my opinion, the ironman experience is surely an attempt. And foreseeably, there is "Avengers experience" in the future. (Possibly the park outside US, not HK and contributes the biggest market of all, is affordable the great investment expenditure.) Or alternative, a new marvel land/ a solo marvel theme park would still be an option.

Hmmm... then where's the Cinderella ride? Surely it deserves one after its two direct-to-dvd sequels.

I disagree. $100 million sounds about right to me.

As soon as I saw this I have a weird sound track buzzing in my head: "Iron Man this is a restricted zone, ease back on your thrusters..."

Re: New Announcement expected today: Marvel attraction...Iron man ?

This should be exciting news ... and yet ... I could not help but to feel flat, and underwhelmed.

We all have been waiting pins and needles to hear new ride announcements for any of the 6 Disney resorts, especially when D23 in Anaheim turned flat on new attraction announcements.

And this came out from nowhere. Seems no one saws this coming.

And after reading about it here - Iron Man Experience announced for Hong Kong Disneyland as Disney’s first Marvel ride, to open in 2016 with high-flying thrills | Inside the Magic

As well as Disney's Blog site - Marvel’s Iron Man Coming to Hong Kong Disneyland in 2016 « Disney Parks Blog

..... it's pretty clear through the few art pieces .. this is using the same, basic "Star Tours" flight simulators.

So, I'm underwhelmed for these reasons -

    1. This is just so "Universal" - 20 years ago. Shoot'em up .. punch'em up the bad guys .. in some contemporary setting - with your favorite action hero .. saving the day.

    2. The building also screams "Universal pre 1995". I've watched so many science fiction films depicting the future .. with cool shaped futuristic buildings - Logans Run for one .... and this looks like a box. Out of a book for "how to make a plain 20th Century styled building".

    3. I'm not happy with Disney acquiring Marvel. It's all about battling baddies ... using present day New York City, usually, ... in this case, will be present day Hong Kong .......... I just can't get excited.

From Robert Iger, to Tom Skaggs .. they are all trying to make this pitch .. like Marvel is just going to kick-butt .. be the greatest thing since sliced bread. But I know they can creatively do better.

So .... Some day .. I'll be excited to make my first trip to HKDL ... with Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Manor as my first to ride. But I'll be in no rush to visit "Stark Tours" ... taking me on a present day romp through present day Hong Kong .. in a land they bothered to call - TOMORROWland.

You shouldn't feel shortchanged. Not only is HKDL getting original rides inspired by classics, it's obvious HKDL is only going to get bigger and they'll have less attractions to choose from if they were looking to clone. Could force them to be creative with their future rides.

Lol, I would definitely go on that! Hopefully a ST2 simulator ride as well.

Marvel’s Iron Man Coming to Hong Kong Disneyland in 2016 « Disney Parks Blog

Interesting reply by Tom Staggs to the question: "Is this going to be an upgraded version of Star Tours?"

Tom Staggs: "We will use an advanced motion simulation ride system, but this attraction will be unlike anything you’ve seen before. Just as Space Mountain is clearly different than Grizzly Gulch, the Iron Man experience will be unique and different from everything else at not only Hong Kong Disneyland, but different from anything anywhere."

^^^ That's either "corporate speak" to make things sound better than they really are - Or he's really on to something to cool.

    I don't know.

I just look at that building and I think - Come on! It's 21st Century .. there are architects around the world designing much more futuristic shaped buildings than that. That building is so "1980" I can't believe that's what they are actually going to build. And for TOMORROWland.

If they were smart .. since this thing isn't suppose to be built for a while - scrap that UGLY box of a building .. and do something .. like it's out of the 25th Century!

Re: New Announcement expected today: Marvel attraction...Iron man ?

The building is nothing spectacular but I think it fits the architectural design of tommorowland in Hong Kong. A very futuristic building would look out of place. One of the main icons of the land, the orbitron, has ride vehicles of a tommorowl that never happen except in science if movies and then you have buzz light year facade with its huge Buzz statue.

and how about the water play area which has giant laser guns and space toys. Add to that lthe photo spot with the very whimsical yellow space suits and the big yellow ship behind it.

the land is not very futuristic in style but instead has elements of Jules Verne's and sci fi 'b' movies and that is exactly how WDI wanted it so that it never looked dated but instead represented a future that we only envisioned in movies

As a HKDL apologist to an extent, I'd certainly like to believe it will be something cool. But that said, not terribly excited. Mildly intrigued. I like Alain Littaye's thoughts on the Iron Man Experience.

He certainly seems optimistic about it, so I'll keep that in mind. I'm more excited for it than when Avatarland was announced, but now I'm a little more optimistic about that particular project.

I do agree the building needs work. I don't think it's ugly per se, but certainly unremarkable, which is probably worse. I'd rather have a grotesque monstrosity of a building that's unique and took a risk rather than this. What offends me about this building is the signage, which looks like perhaps too big based on this preliminary design. It's like it's part of a generic Iron Man toy set that just popped out of its plastic packaging.

    Fingers-crossed.
