ORWEN: But I thought it was already reported that HKDL's night time parade would premier in 2014. Did they change their minds about that already?

They are talking about the future, not just the next few years. But I think all that is too far away to predict. Right now just saying it to impress LegCo members. "Approve our plans and we will build big in the future."

They could put Cars Land and Monstropolis in as well. It is just talk.

Andrew Kam also said construction costs in Hong Kong is 30% higher than Florida and 15% higher than California. So fat chance they will get any of those things built any time soon.

ORDDU: Someone else had posted that construction costs in Hong Kong was actually cheaper than in America. This might have been a claim we read on a different web-footed site. So we're not sure what to believe on that one.

ORWEN: I just hope they don't push the night parade back to 2015 because they really need one of those now!

The translation by admin was incorrect, (probably by google translate).

    Let me correct it...
2014 night time parade (probably before Summer of 2014)
2015 10th Anniversary Major Celebration Event
    2016 Iron Man Experience

and HKDL considers future attractions based on the theming of Avatar and Star Wars IP.

Disney executives estimate the cost of the project to be about $500 million. One of the executives, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions were confidential, also said that "Avatar"-themed attractions are being considered for Disney's parks in Paris and Hong Kong.

Avatar and Star Wars. Just one question, where is the $$MONEY$$ for this?

Easy for a child to dream. Unrealistic from a business point of view. At least not possible in the next 4-5 years.

It's not a surprise that Disney is considering using those properties. They didn't buy them for the heck of it. They think of ways to use everything they have, but don't execute all of those ideas.

Re: HKDL will consider Avatar and Star Wars for future expansion

The best way for HKDL to raise money for a second gate is by putting HKITP Ltd on the HKSE to raise funds. If they could raise HK$300m (not impossible) then it can be done.

WDC itself is a listed company, Disneyland Paris is listed, Oriental Land Company is listed in Tokyo's Nikkei so it is not a process that Disney is not familiar with.

HKSE rules require all companies wanting to list on it to make money for 3 years consecutively. HKDL began making money in 2012. This year it should make money again and next year as well. It should be then able to apply for flotation in 2015.

If things go well, the park could raise the money in 2015 or 2016 and work can then begin on the second gate, which might make a 2019 or 2020 opening.

Floating the company on the HKSE makes a lot more sense than the stupid hk govt re-investing public funds again and again and again. Let the market decide if they want to put money into the resort or not. It is a business after all.
