HONG KONG -- Hong Kong Disneyland has raised pay and increased break times for actors who dress up as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck to greet visitors.
The character performers had complained they suffered muscle, neck and waist problems from wearing Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and other costumes. The workers said they sometimes would stay late and be expected back on the job early the following day.
Hong Kong Disneyland said the workers will receive 11-percent raises as of June 1. The company said break time already has been expanded from 30 to 40 minutes.
The latest pay raise still falls short of matching the salary of the character performers featured in shows.
