HK Ocean Park - One of the Worlds Most Popular Amusement Parks - Forbes - 2006-06-01

    World's Most Popular Amusement Parks

Sixty-foot vertical drops and $45 admission tickets are old news. Today, the steepest thing in the amusement industry is the growth of spending in Asia.

The U.S. theme park industry, once a rocketing roller coaster, is looking more and more like a lazy turn on the Ferris wheel. Amusement park sales in the U.S. are forecast to grow from $10.8 billion to $12.9 billion between 2005 and 2009, according to a recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers. That's an average annual growth rate of 3.9%--sluggish compared to the 5.5% the industry experienced between 1999 and 2000.

Meanwhile, the Asia/Pacific theme park market will balloon from $6.1 billion to $8.1 billion, an average annual growth rate of 5.7%. And the amusement industry in Europe, the Middle East and Africa combined will grow about 5% per year, reaching $5 billion by 2009.

Ocean Park is one of the world's biggest marine parks. There are more than 40 attractions divided up between the Lowland Gardens, the Kids' World, the Marine Land and several other areas. A highlight is the cable car ride, which provides access from the lowland to the headland and offers views over the surrounding city and the South China Sea.

HKDL, This doesn't jive w/ what I've heard historically as well as what's on this site
(themeparkinsider.com). (and that lists only the north american parks).

I'm also pretty sure that DL (in Anaheim) has higher attendance than DL Paris.
Also Universal nor DCA are not on the Forbes list either. Glomming both lists together
would put Ocean Park at #18 worldwide.

Coastergrotto puts Ocean Park at tied for #17

Nope. Don't buy it. Disneyland didn't make the list and if it isn't #1, after the 50th's impressive attendance than it is #2.

I noticed they combined DisneySea into Tokyo Disneyland as though it was the same park. I guess that would explain why EPCOT is nowhere on this list, but no DL Anaheim at all?

And $24 to get into the Magic Kingdom?! Maybe if you're 8 years old, a Florida resident, and you brought a coupon.

What in the world are they smoking at Forbes?
