No large-scale attractions in short term, HKDL still got room to grow, Mingpao News

    According to Mingpao News:

No large-scale attractions in short term, HKDL still got room to grow

In an interview with the VP of Walt Disney Imagineering, he said there would be "Modest" attractions in coming years, but large-scale attractions would only be seen 3-5 years later. He comes to Hong Kong 4 or 5 times each year, and he will be in Hong Kong this month to discuss short-term to medium-term expansion plan. They have been looking into all sorts of options from small scale to large scale attractions, more thrilled or family oriented. New attractions might be developed from Brand New ideas, New Technology, New Concept and or New Disney figures. "We currently have a lot of ideas for expansion, I wouldn't be surprised to see expansion plan being a bit fast forwarded"

After seeing what they count as an "attraction" over there, a new bench in the hub is considered in the "modest" category.

Oy. Don't they want the added capacity from the one ride? As opposed to 3-5 rides to get maybe the same?
    Not a great report.

ORWEN: I wonder if this means they've pushed back their original plans to have a Small World attraction by 2007 or 2008?

ORDDU: They've certainly pushed back the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction a few more years.

ORGOCH: Wouldn't ya just hate ta be there whilst even just ONE ride that was down fer a refurb? Sheesh!! They's more ta do right here in Morva than they is in that dinky little park!!

Rats. There's no way I'm visiting until POTC opens there. Been saving up my frequent flier miles, too. (not to mention plotting out the use of our DVC points)

    Bugger, eh?

I guess this is what George Mitchell meant when he said we'd be "surprised".

Also, HKDL - I know it won't be in English but do you have a link for this? It is definitely HKDL postworthy.

I'm pretty sure you will see It's a Small world in the Next 2 years.

They've already started work on it, there's Refurb Walls up in one certain spot in Fantasyland behind the railroad, and down the side of the exit from the Golden Mickey's to stop anyone from seeing this area...

Plus on the Bus from the Hotel's to the PArk you pass a backstage entrance that was open all the times i drove past, and there was a huge footprint cleared with construction started on it and plenty of Construction worker's around.

So anyone going and staying at a Disney Resort, look out to get a pic through the Side backstage entrance just up from the exit of the Hollywood Hotel.

ORGOCH: Talk 'bout him havin' a wild ride!! It'll be years 'afore he comes back fer a visit with yerself, sister!

OOoohh...thanks for sharing that tidbit. Apparently IASW isn't a "big" attraction anymore.

Hopefully this is just Disney being elusive, but they have got to get serious about this park. We have one E-ticket and not another for 3-5 years? If reports are true by the time HK gets its second E-ticket Shanghai DL will have opened. I mean even DCA had 3 E-tickets on opening day with Tower of Terror opening three years later.. Come on Disney "WOW' us.

Ground has been broken for IASW construction. The dolls and toys will start be constructed in September. IASW should finish maybe at the end of the next year.

They still need a lot of work. Not that it looks bad, but the lack of rides in the park is scary. Maybe if the Parks & Resorts wasn't creating these elaborate worldwide promotions, and sticking to local promotions and improvements with new rides every so often, especially for Hong Kong, they might be just as succesful in bring guests.

They need some large-scale attractions soon, unless they plan on watching the park fizzle and focus their attention of trying to build a sixth resort or park in Mainland China, and probably do the same things they did with this park. How could HKDL survive with a similar Disney park close to it.

Small World will be only the second dark ride for Fantasyland. Had they not have rushed the park and maybe opened six months later maybe even this past summer (June or July), they could have added all these classic rides when they were planning the park.

Well it's not rushing to build (they took 3 years) it was the money being spent.
