    Re-Birth of Western River Expedition

I have always been facinated about the idea of Western River Expedition. it just seems like it would be quite a sight to see. Not to mention one hell of a ride! Unfortunatly it never was thanks to Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain, but what maybe Disney decided to go ahead with this idea where there was no Splash Mountain, or Thunder Mountain. How about in Hong Kong!!!! How awesome would that be?

Re: Re-Birth of Western River Expedition

First off, to blame Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is to improperly place the blame. Splash Mountain opened in 1992 and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was apart of the Thunder Mesa complex. It wasn't happening before that. Western River Expedition was done in by that which it was to do in, Pirates of the Caribbean.

As much as I'd love to see the attraction and love discussing it, I believe it best remain unbuilt. There is a very strong aura around Western River Expedition and I don't think any real version will live up to that.

Western River Expedition shouldn't be built anywhere but the Magic Kingdom, WDW.
Seeing as this is extremely unlikely due to many many factors, it seems no-one can have it.

Re: Re-Birth of Western River Expedition

An attraction with imagineering done by someone who had
the most influence on DL's most successful attractions, besides
Walt himself, is certainly an attraction that could and should be
considered for all Disney Parks. And it would be especially nice
if Alice Davis could see it finally, since Marc is no longer around.

Hong Kong really does need a large audio animatronic show,
but without Frontierland, it really needs to have a proper land
    for it developed.

It is curious that Western River Expedition was originally planned for WDW,
and with the lack of attractions in WDW Magic Kingdom, this type of attraction
would certainly be a needed boost for this neglected park.

BUT, over at the original Magic Kingdom in Anaheim, a '49er
Gold Rush twist on Western River Expedition would be the exact type of
Disney style attraction that DCA so DESPERATELY needs, and has lacked
since before day 1. WRE would finally be the dark ride that would bring
DCA the level of quality that Disney parks USED to stand for. And with
the recent and further demise of Walt's Frontierland, it would be nice to
have some of that Western flavor added back to the DL resort someplace.
and DCA is really the park that needs more of a fantasy flare, so lets bring
it some of the old west from the 1840's and 1850's

WRE could really be that boost to any of these parks. It's really a shame
that attraction has been placed in cold storage for so long. And it's really
time for it to be moved off the drawing board, and into reality.

Exactly the way you described Marc Davis is why I would be very cautous about building Western River Expedition. Maybe with the changes at Imagineering, but I'd be very nervous.

Agreed. When WDW opened, the big question was, "Where are the pirates?" WDW wasn't going to put a pirates ride in at their park as they figured Florida is too close to the actual Caribbean and they didn't think guests there would want something that's "so close to home". But when the complaints & questions started flooding in, they scrambled to give WDW guests what they wanted.... pirates. In the end they rushed to much and we got gypped since our version is only half as long as it's California cousin.

You probably do not know that HKDL does NOT have a Frontierland. So... where would you put a "western" river expedition ride?

    Are you scared of Alice?????

Seeing more of Marc's drawings come to life would be
a wonderful tribute. And seeing more examples of his
humor would be a wonderful gift to DL guests.

It's certainly a heck of a more interesting, and fun theme
than a ferris wheel and rollercoaster. And WRE would certainly
create a much better legacy for DCA, than that Pier ever will.

Tomorrowland seems like a great place. People have expeditions in the future, and there are also rivers there, and you can go west.

It would be wonderful to see Marc Davis's vision for WRE come to life with both Alice and Tony Baxter working together to make it reality. DCA would certainly benefit from it, you could take out Golden Dreams and Bathroom row and everything in between to build it. Re-theme the area to early California, and you've got it! The pier isn't going anywhere now that Toy Story Midway Mania is going in.

You're just intimidated by me awsome fun-gineering skills. I also have a plan for a Tomorrowland pirates den, where we tell everybody they are hackers, but in reality, it's Jack Sparrow!
