    Will HKDL Get this, too?!?!?!

ORWEN: Oh, ducklings! Us Cauldron girls just finished reading the latest update from Al Lutz about how Disneyland management is thinking about re-opening the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-thru. Does anyone out there happen to know if the management types at Hong Kong Disneyland might be thinking of doing the same thing with their Sleeping Beauty Castle?

ORDDU: It would certainly make sense--assuming this rumor comes to pass. After all, we remember reading an article on MiceAge a while back, which suggested that there could be some consideration afoot for SOMETHING inside the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Hong Kong. But--at the time--management was waiting to figure out more about the particular tastes of its own guests over there. I suspect that was just a public relations cover up. Most likely they didn't wish to admit that there was no money in the coffers to spend on even a modest walk-thru attraction.

ORWEN: Well, whatever the case, Fantasyland over there needs a lot more fantasy. IT'S A SMALL WORLD will certainly help. But they also need more attractions that celebrate Disney's many fairytales and other magical adventures.

Hi witches! Why are you not at DLR today my dearies...with the rest of them gorgeous men from MC? And some girls too.

As for HKDL's castle... I am not even sure if it was built with the prospects of a castle walk-thru attraction, but you know what.. this park needs all the help they can get in the attraction dept., so I would be happy to see more little things added to it.

ORWEN: Hello, TDLFAN, duckling!! So nice to see you again. We WOULD have been out in California today--with you and those gorgeous men you just talked about--if only we didn't have to go to work at our part time jobs at Brooms to Go. You know how it is.

ORGOCH: But we'll be gittin' out that way agin some time--just ta see what kind a frogs they went 'n added ta Tom Sawdust's Island. An' if'n I sees even just ONE pirate on that island, I'm gonna' turn him inside out befer I puts a life-time whammy on him!

ORDDU: (Ahem!) Now, back to our regularly scheduled program, I really DO hope they add the Sleeping Beauty castle walk-thru to Hong Kong Disneyland's line up of attractions. It would truly make the place seem more like Walt's orginal park--plus add another, relatively inexpensive attraction for the guests over there. Somehow I believe they would truly appreciate something like this in their park, too!

Sadly, I am not in CA either. I am home alone and my man is away at work.

about the castle in HKDL, there was an interview of Show-Producer Imagineer Tom Morris by Alain, asking if the castle in HKDL will have a walk through attraction someday, and here is what he said.

"Not yet, but we reserved space inside of it for future development, once we get an idea and understanding of what people need and want to the park...it can go to merchandise, or to an attraction, or to some sort of interactive attraction, once we get a sense after we opened of what our audience wants to see more of...but there is space available inside the castle."

If that is the case, then foresee another BBBoutique in that castle.

there are 2 boutiques next to the castle, and we (people in hong kong) guess the winnie the pooh attraction is just occupied half of the building... it shouldn't be that big.... so it might be another dark ride which the entrance is in the castle, or just a walk through attraction inside the castle....

I dont think HK's castle was built to accomidate the castle tour. If so, whats so wrong with it getting a walk-through also?

It kind of makes sense, with the Castle being an exact replica of the originals. After all, even a walk through would give the crowds something more to do.

Hong Kong audiences seem to be responding well to 'streetmosphere' and enhanced scenery in the parks e.g. Pirate Land. It would be nice, but as with all things, I'd rather they concentrated their efforts elsewhere.

ORDDU: Thank you for providing the quote we were referring to, earlier, Bennettshiu, duckling. That is exactly what we had read in the past. Since the catle in Hong Kong is the same size as the one in California, it could easily contain a castle walk-thru. Some adjustments would have to be made, of course, just like adjustments were made to the California version. But it could happen, all the same.

    What about accessibility?

Surely a walk-through attraction built today would need to be wheelchair accessible, although I'm not sure about HK regulations?

Al mentioned in his update that the Californian castle benefits from a grandfather clause allowing it to operate without any changes, I'm not sure if a walk-through of the same design would be possible in HK if built today?

I don't know exactly what the laws dealing with disabled persons entail in China. I do know that their laws have gone through several revisions over the past few years. The CDPF (China Disabled Persons' Federation) I think would definitely want to have the Castle accessible to handicapped citizens, but I think that unless there is a specific clause stating that all buildings should accomodate wheelchair bound persons, then they might not have much to say about the matter. The backers and members of the CDPF are working on a lot more important issues in that society today. But, I really don't know...

HKDL was built with accesibility codes all over. They even have an elevator to go up to the train station. I would assume that an attraction in the castle would have to provide that option. Or something similar to what Disney is offering to wheelchair guests at the new Nemo Subs at DL.
