More Theme Parks in PRD? Paramount? Universal Studios?

    PRD means Pearl River Delta.

According to Wenweipo, the city of Shenzhen plans to setup Theme Parks with Paramount.

and in another news article from Wenweipo, it was mentioned that Hong Kong Government should give the green light to various infrastructure projects such as West Kowloon Cultural District, Aberdeen Fisherman's Wharf, Universal Studios, and HongKong-Zhuhai-Macau Mega Bridge etc...(these are all major development projects under planning) and start construction as soon as possible.

Since Macau is transforming itself into Vegas of The East, Shenzhen and Hong Kong should speed up its tourism related projects so as to complement each others in PRD (Pearl River Delta) Region.

    ........................ ..................

Universal Studios Hong Kong? Good Idea!! give some pressure to Hong Kong Disneyland (the Theme Park)!!!

or it might just be a rumor.

I don't think its even possible because Universal Studios has said they won't build another themepark in South East Asia for at least 30 Years after the Singapore one opens in 2010.

I tend to agree with Witches. There is little stuff to talk about here at the moment, but what if we started talking about Universal Studios in the Disneyland Resort forum, we'd be strung up and quartered.

Some people are into that kind of thing though.

Not me. I prefer fruit-related sexuality.

ORDDU: Thank you for your support, Loomis, duckling. There was never any intent on our part to be 'heavy'. But if we allow one post to invade the wrong section, what's to prevent more invasions until this section--or ALL sections--become confusing. It's not like as if we're trying to pick on HongKongDisneyland for any personal reasons. Frankly, we have nothing against him and he has some enlightening news to share. It's just that it might be read by even more ducklings around here if it were shared in the proper section.

ORGOCH: 'Course that don't mean we don't still need ta 'lighten' up. That is, ONE of us does! Anybody seen how big Orwen's gotten ta be lately?

ORWEN: I heard that old biddy!! And just for what you just said, I'm hiding every single frog of yours I can find--or worse--I'll turn 'em all into little George Bush look alikes! That'll ruin your appetite for sure!

but Hong Kong doesn't belong to South East Asia. Hong Kong is situated at Southern Part of North East Asia, Not South East Asia.

and it was reported by some newspapers that there is an exclusion clause in the agreement between Universal Studios and Genting, that China is excluded. So Universal Studio could also be setup in China, and Hong Kong SAR is part of China now.

PS Sorry Guys, it might not be the most suitable to have put this news here. but i guess it is a little bit related to HKDL.

Hong Kong is not South East Asia. The South East Asians' organization is called ASEAN and Hong Kong is not a member. Hong Kong actually belongs to North East Asia.

It would be interesting if Universal Studios got built here. After all Universal Studio and Disneyland co-exist in LA and Orando, so why not here?

The Government is in discussion with several U.S. theme park giants (e.g., Warner Brothers, Six Flags, and Universal Studio) to build additional theme parks on Lantau Island. Golf courses, spas, resorts, watersports centers, boardwalks and bicycle tracks are also on the drawing board for the island, as are a yacht club at Discovery Bay and a Formula Three race track. Tourist attractions that would take advantage of Hong Kong’s heritage, local character and natural terrain are also under consideration. These include an eco-tourism center and preserving the Tai O fishing village. The island of Mui Wo, which is near Lantau, will have a facelift that includes possible reclamation to build a waterfront piazza.

A good alternative to Universal Studios would be the Warner Brothers Movie World. It has got some great rides which I know the locals will love. Batman and Superman are quite popular here, too.

I think any theme parks being planned for LANTAU ISLAND is definitely related to the Hong Kong Disneyland project as it will be immediate competition. That's like if Six Flags was building a park in Anaheim, it would be a big deal on the Disneyland forum.

I definitely don't expect to see a new Warner Bros. theme park in Asia, unless it's owned and operated by another company under license, like the OLC's Tokyo Disney Resort.

Time Warner divested itself of Six Flags many years ago and MovieWorld Australia is owned and operated by Village Roadshow under license from Warners. That park also has Shrek in 4-D, on loan from Universal and Warner Bros. has also been helping design the Harry Potter section of Universal Studios Florida. They don't want to be in the theme park business anymore.

Regarding the MovieWorld in Germany, from Wikipedia:

The Movie Park Germany is a theme park with real movie studios in Bottrop-Kirchhellen. It consists of 6 areas based on the topic "fascination film".

The park was opened in June 1996 as "Warner Bros. Movie World" on the former territory of the amusement park "Traumlandpark", which had already replaced an earlier attraction called "Märchenwald". During the time from 1992 to 1993, a short lived theme park called "Bavaria Filmpark" existed in this location as well. The laying of the cornerstone was in May 1994.
At the end of 1999, Warner Bros. Movie World started a cooperation with Six Flags Inc. As part of this cooperation, Warner Bros. gave the license rights to Six Flags, who in turn managed the park under the name Warner Bros. Movie World as a licencee.

Since 2004, the park in under the leadership of StarParks, a sub-group of Palamon Capital, leading to the name being changes "Movie Park Germany" in 2005. The old Warner Bros. licences are now replaced by new ones from various studios like MGM and 20th Century Fox.

    also from Wikipedia:

Parque Warner Madrid (previously known as Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid and Warner Bros. Park) is a theme park located 25 km southeast of Madrid, Spain, in the municipality of San Martín de la Vega. The park opened on April 5, 2002, under the management of the Six Flags chain, with a 5% ownership share held by Time Warner.

In November 2004, the management arrangement with Six Flags was terminated, with the park now managed by Time Warner and numerous Spanish investment groups. The name change to Parque Warner Madrid occurred at the start of 2006.
