消 息 人 士 說 ， 當 局 正 興 建 樂 園 的 相 關 配 套 ， 地 鐵 明 年 便 會 在 川 沙 鎮 開 通 。
上 海 市 長 韓 正 日 前 表 示 ， 上 海 有 能 力 及 條 件 興 建 迪 士 尼 樂 園 。

It is now under the final stage of review by the Mainland Central Government and it is estimated that it is highly likely they will give the green light to building Shanghai Disneyland.

The only way I can see Hong Kong surviving is that the Shanghai park is not a Magic Kingdom style. Perhaps this is the plan? And if this is true, what was with Iger stating that there are no plans in the immediate future for a Chinese mainland park?

Iger merely stated the process was very complicated and he didn't know when.

Even if they give the green light, it would take a few years (probably 4 or 5 years from now) to build the park in Shanghai and by that time Hong Kong Disneyland should have been expanded.

Look at the recent development, They (all 3 parties, GuangDong Province, Macau SAR and Hong Kong SAR) have all agreed on Financing on The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Mega Bridge, it is a good news for Pearl River Delta Region and Hong Kong as well. When the construction of the Hong Kong Mega Bridge gets completed, Hong Kong will be linked with Macau (as well as Zhuhai). Hong Kong Disneyland and Cotai Strip at Macau will be more easily accessible. This region will be more attractive and more competitive.

This is no surprise to me. China is a big country, the most populated country in the world. If USA can support 2 Disney Resorts, China is big enough to support 2 resorts, namely, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Shanghai Disney Resort.

I expect the Shanghai Park to be different, probably not a Magic Kingdom Style Park.

This way, Hong Kong Disneyland will survive.

I agree that if USA can support two parks, so can China. The big difference is that HK and Shanghai are much, much closer to each other than Anaheim and Orlando.

So on some level they will be competing with each other for guests. Only if HK has been completely expanded will it be able to compete with Shanghai... which will more than likely have more attractions than HK even from the begining.

probably the 1st park at Shanghai might be Mulanland, or BundBundLand.

or Shanghai Disney Bund.

Shanghai and Hong Kong are at least a couple of hours apart (by air)

The pattern has been to build the DL first, and then to build the second unique park... so if they did it that way, they would be breaking the pattern... and doing it for a riskier business model too.

Mainland China is a new market for Disney. It gives them an opportunity to try something different. I don't think Mainland Chinese would care if the 1st mainland park is Magic Kingdom park or not. All they care is that it is a Disney Theme Park.

Perhaps Disney has agreed to fully expand Hong Kong Disneyland as a prerequisite of building another park at Shanghai.

IF you are referring to Night Kingdom, then I still don't fully believe that is happening soon. That rumor first appeared in a place where the rumors aren't very founded. I guess it was big enough for people to read and take to the media. WDW would be foolish to add a fifth park, and I hope Iger has enough sense to realize this, especially if the staffing is to be as elaborate as the rumor suggests.

If the Shanghai park is really as big as they say it will be, then it is not just HKDL that is at risk, TDL will be at risk also.

They can barely pay for the Hong Kong park, and now they want another one?! jeez...

One thing to keep in mind, is that many people in China can't afford going to a Disney park. Just because, there is a big population, doesn't mean that there is really that large of an audience that can afford it.
