Hong Kong Disneyland plans to expand 30% area in 5 years!


According to the Hong Kong local news paper (HK Econmics Times) reported on 24 June 2008, Hong Kong Disneyland suggested promote a 5 year expansion project, the extension area approximately amounts to 5 hectares, increases two theme land(Forntierland and Toontown?I guess!) and 10 section of brand-new large attractions.
The reliable information disclosed that after the extension those new attractions except mainly distribute in two brand-new theme land,and some attractions will be build in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.

These attractions listed are considered to be the park's largest attractions, or the E-tickets.

Maybe the construction in Adventureland is related to this? It does sound like good news though.

A Frontierland is something that IMO, never should have been delayed. It's something that's integral to the feel of a Disneyland Park. As for Toontown, I'm hoping they add something that will draw adults in ala' CarToon Spin. Also, I hope this expansion includes the rumored Pirates-Splash Mountain hybrid and the Voodoo-themed Haunted Mansion.

ORDDU: This sounds very much like what the moderator of Blue Sky Disney had to say in regard to the Hong Kong Disneyland expansion. Several months ago he was talking about the plans to add more attractions to the park. We can only hope!

To be honest, though, I think they could do without a Toontown at HKDL as I don't think that land as ever worked brilliantly well. An expanded Fantasyland with a few more dark rides (e.g. Peter Pan and TLM) would be a far better addition.

Uhm ... don't want to throw rain on anyone's pixie dust parade, BUT this hasn't been formalized yet.

I believe something is getting lost in the translation. Disney is negotiating with the HK government, but I don't believe any agreement regarding expansion (and more importantly to Bob and Jay, how much the Chinese will kick in) has been reached.

I also don't believe the expansion plans detailed here are what's going to happen. It appears as if the paper/reporter just dusted off things that were supposed to be built when the park opened and extrapolated that they'd be what's being added.

The things I've heard talk about involve Pirates (in a mountainous thrill ride based more on the films than the other versions), a different take on the Haunted Mansion and a dark ride for Fantasyland, likely a cheaper Little Mermaid than what is coming to DCA.

I VERY much doubt you'll ever see Frontierland or Toontown, let alone both, being added.
