![]() | Re: 6/9: Going Up They have an Up balloon at the San Diego Wild Animal Park next to my house, but I couldn't get myself on it. It's the same height (400 feet) but it doesn't really look that high from the ground. The thing about it is that the wind takes it and the cable was at a 45-degree angle! I know there must be tons of safety precautions, but it's still a freakin' balloon. Trusting my life to an invisible gas and an inch thick of steel cable just doesn't do it for me. I get scared at 200 feet even being locked into a rollercoaster with over-the-shoulder restraints, I'd go nuts being up there in a giant balloon. I wanted to do it, but I couldn't get myself on the darn thing. I'm not scared of flying, I actually love flying once you get past the grope-happy "security" agents, but being in a silent balloon where you can still see the ground is just too eerie for me. I can do just about any rollercoaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but I can't get 10 feet near that giant balloon. I'm sure it's all the same saftey, but I just need that psychological factor of feeling locked in with steel all around me. I dunno, on stuff like that I just get to thinking... "What if the engineers were having a bad day or got a 'C' on math and physics". Plus, the size of that thing is intimidating. The physical size of the balloon has to be seen to really be understood and it's really intimidating for people already nervous about it. |

![]() | Re: 6/9: Going Up Thanks for the in air pics. That's about as close as I will get to going up in one (there is one nearby me at the Philadelphia Zoo). And thanks for creeping me out with that Pan dude. |

![]() | Re: 6/9: Going Up So the balloon at the park in Irvine isn't the same type of balloon? It looks exactly the same to me... I guess they just don't feel like mentioning it. |

![]() | Re: 6/9: Going Up I'll pass on the balloon. I don't trust Disney to look after my safety as they once did. Too many Park deaths, too many cover-ups, too many friends in local government, too much pressure to make money. |

![]() | Re: 6/9: Going Up I'm a little disappointed by the Paradiso 37 review, but now that I've seen the menu, as a rule, I NEVER over pay for Mexican food, so I wouldn't have eaten there anyway. However, fried mac and cheese is one of my vices, so HOPEFULLY they will offer take out in the months to come(unless they already do?). And I'm not interested enough in seeing the parking lot and building tops of Downtown Disney to pay $16, so the baloon can be grounded (FOR SAFETY) all it wants. |
