Smile Scary Farm: 1,000 ideas that would be better than the mine ride (Invasion Beneath)

Loved Scary Farm & thanks again to Dusty & Norm! Nice to meet Al Lutz himself, Theme Park Review's Robb Alvey, and many of the artists who make the mazes & who make up the monsters! The 2011 "The Hanging" was my favorite of the last three--no weak spots, and Virus Z is my favorite maze at Knott's or Universal. (Hope the Queen Mary tops it! Two weeks till that Micechat meet!)

There was one disappointment at KSF this year: "
Invasion Beneath," the Scary Farm version of the Calico Mine Ride. How weak was it? It wasn't a cringe-inducing embarrassment like "Superstar Limo," but it may have been the most boring ride ever on any continent. It should be re-themed before next weekend! It currently contains almost nothing besides army men who look less threatening than the ones from Toy Story. I mean that.

So I'll start off with the first 13 on the list of 1,000 ideas (please add 987 more) that would be more interesting and scary than the current "Invasion Beneath":

    1. Time Share Sales Associates (And the first 200 people who "sign up" can attend a Scary Farm Version of a Time Share Presentation.)

    2. Bear Cave

    3. Bat Cave

    4. Presidential Candidate Cave

    5. Stuff Hanging From the Ceiling Ride (Just add more.)

    6. Pirate Ghost Cave

    7. Possessed Gnome Mine

    8. The Charlene "I've Never Been to Me" Ride

    9. The Superstar Limo Returns But With a Much, Much Lower Budget and Created in Just Four Days Ride

    10. Witch Mountain

    11. HR Sadists Cave ("Resumes not accepted from the Unemployed!")

    12. American Airlines Presents a Theme Park Ride!

    13. The Cave of Second-Rate is Good Enough Yetis

Ah, I've been hearing it's awful too which is too bad because I was HIGHLY anticipating this since it was something completely different than what's usually in the mines. It better be fixed by the 5th...

I thought the idea was great...just the execution was absolutely terrible. My friend and I kept looking at each other trying to figure out the story and what was going on. Military personnel yelling inaudibly through face masks and giant terminator/dementor/werewolves with lasers? Okay. Drills? Okay. Also why was the drill in the main chamber facing up? Wouldn't they have been drilling down to get to these creatures? Terrible, terrible execution on this ride.

The Scary Spiders from Underground Mine Ride (oh wait they already did that and it wasn't as bad as this...)

Yeah, I was dissapointed by invasion beneath. Though the lasers were pretty nice. Black Widows cavern was better IMO.

There should some demon actors in the ride to balance out the soldiers in the ride.

I have to agree the that the Invasion Beneath only avoided being a waste of time because we all walked right on. Though it avoided being a waste of time it did not avoid being a waste of space and opportunity. Forget about theming the ride, the Glory Hole set is the only area that really needs props. Just take advantage of all the darkness and great hiding spots and just try really scaring us. The cavern scene was another wasted location opportunity for monster interaction.
Hey Knotts, let Mice Chat design the Mine Ride next year, we could not do any worse!

the drill is facing the way it is because its an invasion from beneath...the drill is coming for us from them

but yeah, mine ride almost always is the weakest of all the haunt attractions. the military talent wasn't actively trying to scare us, just yelling at us and very difficult to understand. would have rather seen them costumed as monsters and have them actively scaring the trains
Will there be screams when the sun sets,

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that it was lacking...
We were there opening night, and besides the fact that I didn't fully get the plot, it just honestly wasn't that scary.
Another part that kind of confused me was why there were just a few military actors inside the attraction, but I could have sworn there were more outside as you exited, at least 5 of them..
Maybe they were just getting their act together opening weekend? /:

I have to agree, the Mine Ride was weak. I was hoping for hidden monsters, but when I went there weren't any, just the soldiers yelling stuff. Even having the hooded figures in the stalactite (sp?) cavern was lame, I thought that they would do something ... but they were just there doing nothing.

It looked like invasion of the spinny light cart monsters. I was half-expecting to see a lightup sword or lightup bubble gun.

Glad I was not alone. I really thought...what? What was that and why? I get that it is a hard space to work with but everything that has been there has been better than that. Army men are not scary and I was more jumpy from the hanging string that came in my face than the men yelling and waving guns at us. Not scary at all and the glory hole room just seemed pointless. The lazers were the coolest thing there. The aliens or whatever they were invading from beneath were lame at pointless. You could find better at home haunts that this. What a watse. But that was probably the biggest of only a few low points from the night!

I haven't seen it yet, but I also concur that typically, the Mine Ride is the weakest of the scares every year. Just not enough places for actors to safely hide, I'm guessing.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Here's an idea. Retheme it to, bear with me here....
    Gears of War!
It could be the same basic storyline except instead of the stupid soldiers there they'd be the much scarier Locust!
If you haven't played GOW, Lucust are basically aliens that live underground and have decided to try and take over the planet by coming up to the surface and wiping out the human race. I think if they replaced all of the humans and animatronics (or rather the statues they called animatronics) with Locust and basically made the humans not seen, it'd be much scarier!
    Here's a picture of a typical Locust.
