Why don't they close the building, do the necessary work to fix said building and either could build one of two dark rides in there: a laser tag ride that would be a time travel update to the Beary Tales dark ride or do as what most people have said, a Peanuts dark ride.

I liked this ride and I can't believe it's current state! It was like taking a ride through the Primeval diorama at Disneyland. It was definitely old school but still fun and never had a line. This is just pathetic. I hope Knotts can get their stuff together and either resurrect this attraction or come up with something fresh. It's creepy how much these photos look like those abandoned amusement park photos you see....where it's hard to imagine there was once life in this attraction.

That was a tear jerker for sure. Most of that does not look like simple decay - that looks like vandalism by Knott's employees. Why isn't the attraction completely locked to prevent this? That's just deplorable.

And I agree - the ride system is bulletproof: relube it and add new scenery and let's get a great new ride in there!!!

    Re: KOD is dead.

My concern is if they brought the ride back, how do they counter the security issues the brought the ride to it's slow death to begin with? Back in the KBT days and early KOD days, the cars were evenly spaced out as a continuous load, as you may expect.

But due to people leaving their cars during the ride (and allegations of people having sex on the ride), they tethered the cars 5 together, with a very large gap between. You would sit in random sections of the ride for an eternity as another section loaded. Not to mention having a Knott's employee riding in the back. Not to mention the unbelievable lines and waits this process created.

Until that issue is settled, I can't imagine it returning.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Well, the only reason there'd be such rampant abuse of the ride is if they let go of the various positions inside where employees stood and watched. They probably cheaped out on those positions which then caused guests to start walking around or having the aforementioned activities, leading to the HORRID tethered car arrangement. I think a simple upgrade of infrared cameras with a dedicated employee to watch them would take care of any security issues.

I'm rather disgusted and don't understand vandalism for the sake of vandalism. It was a treasure of an attraction and Knott's definitely needs to reopen that space with another incredible darkride. The park is in dire need of a dark ride and this space will eventually be gutted and replaced at some time, I hope.

In this case, I'm not upset with Knott's for letting the ride deteriorate while shuttered — I'm extremely pissed with the cast members who pulled this crap and trashed the place. Such disrespectful and selfish cast members should be fired as this mess is a crime.

Ok, yes, the place looks terrible and seeing this cavernous show building and the scenes all languishing in disrepair is sad. But look at what IS there! The whole ride system, skeletons of animatronics, framing for sets.

Why can't they work something out here?
Structure Problems/Rotting, Mold and Mildew Problems, Animals including Cats/Rats have moved in. It would be too much effort to fix what is already there, and easier to clear it out and start from scratch if they ever did.

Yeah, a coworker of mine who used to work for KBF said it's been like this for literally years.

I love the idea of a Peanuts attraction, that would be so ideal. Come on, Matt Ouimetm, you have the power to bring back KBF to it's former glory. That building is such a wasted space and a constant reminder of what used to be there. But it could be an instant HIT (again) with a new dark ride centered around the Peanut characters! So before adding another needless rollercoaster in the Park, take the time to bring this area back to life.

I don't think I could disagree with something more than this. Does anybody remember when they took out Beary Tales Theatre and replaced the sets with a bunch of tacky Peanuts character cut outs? It was horrible...and it makes complete sense coming from a coaster-centric company like Cedar Fair who flat out doesn't get dark rides (or walk thru's in this case).
I have no confidence whatsoever of them doing anything worthwhile in that building using the Peanuts characters. They have too little to work with to fill up too long of a track. Wasn't Kingdom of the Dinosaurs a 8 minute ride??

I do feel that Matt Ouimet can do for Knotts what he did for Disneyland: restore things from the past that were forgotten by prior management and milk the hell out of it....and there were two amazing rides that once occupied that now abandoned building.

I have all the confidence in the world in Matt, but if they do end up just doing a Peanuts ride, or a Shoot'em up ride, then I've officially given up on Knotts Berry Farm...no matter how good their chicken is.

I really hope that Matt Ouimet doesn't just find a very solid replacement dark ride for the building, but emphasize what Knott's should have been about the past decade: thrills and theme. That's one thing that set Knott's apart from Disneyland and Magic Mountain. While they have the thrill aspect down, I hope Matt does focus more on themed and unique attractions to help balance out the audience.

The Calico Mine Train is a very classic, old school dark ride of the finest sort.

But I quite agree the park could do with more...
