Knott's Berry Farm is closing PERILOUS PLUNGE for good, Sept 3rd

If you are a huge fan of the Perilous Plunge water ride at Knott's Berry Farm, you'd better head over there. Knott's will be closing the attraction on September 3rd to make way for a brand new attraction that will be announced shortly.

The attraction, which opened in 2000, carries 24 riders for a 3 minute excursion which culminates in a 115 foot vertical drop.

“Perilous Plunge has carried thousands of visitors over its 12 year tenure at Knott’s,” said Raffi Kaprelyan, general manager of Knott’s Berry Farm, “so we wanted to invite guests out to give it a proper send off.” Although it might not draw as many fans as, say, Soap Box Racers, would for a goodbye ride, it is a very generous and responsible way to let fans know about a ride closure. Nice work!


So are any of you MiceChatters going to miss this attraction or not? What do you think they should put in its place?

Rode it once, that was enough. I won't miss it. As for what should go in that spot, I think a nice themed family coaster using the KOD building as a dark ride portion/loading station for it would be pretty awesome. It's not going to happen, but it would be nice.

I'll tell you one thing. I'll miss the free car washes it gave me on Western Avenue. When you pass Perilous Plunge and the wind is just right - clean car!

Agreed on all accounts. But what could they possiby offer that would be satisfactory? How about no ride at all? Just something...pleasant.

Personally with all my trips to Knott's I have never once had the desire to ride Perilous Plunge and don't mind seeing it go. In fact, I'm just not a huge fan of the park at all.

It's going to be interesting to see what they get for sure. When we went on our recent east coast trip we rode a couple of decently themed coasters with some dark-ride elements. One was essentially "Goofy's Sky School in a box" that was themed after The Dark Knight. It wasn't "Disney" quality, but pretty impressive for Six Flags.

The other was a very nice indoor/outdoor coaster that was VERY family friendly at Busch Gardens, had a really nice show building and that actually had alternating effects kind of like Star Tours. Not to that extent mind you, but different ride elements during each ride. I really think something like that could be great at Knott's and fill a couple of gaps at the park. A dark ride (which is SORELY needed) and another in-between coaster for the younger set.

I think they could do something like that that starts off in the KOD building for a dark ride part (kind of like Mummy at Universal) then a little hill or slight launch out of the building for an outside part where Perilous Plunge is then back into the station.

Now if they could get Jaguar back down to a 42" height requirement as it was when it first opened.

Seeing things like Perilous Plunge only remind me why Disney is the king of theme parks. Sorry Knotts.

I got to ride it this Summer. The wait and unload was slow and painful. And all it offers is a drop. No content or substance to it. It needed to go....

Knotts has promised dark rides. So it needs to keep its promises and give us an actual dark ride. But praise to them since it looks like the park is addressing the balance by concentrating on the Boardwalk area and leaving Ghost Town alone!
