Does knotts only turn scary at night for halloween?

going to make a little side trip on my trip to DLR this weekend to knotts for the 1st time. Wondering if all the scary stuff/ mazes etc are only up and running after the night time upcharge begins. Just trying to plan my day thanks for any advice you can give

October Daytime = Knott's Berry Farm

In the last few years there were a lot of the Haunt props visible during the day, some of covered with a tarp. This year management has dictated that little as possible of Haunt be visible to the public during the day. If it can't be mounted on a dolly that can be easily moved into position it's to be covered up. This even goes to the Hotel, which we noticed yesterday morning when we left from Sunday night's activities was minimumly decorated. We asked at the front desk about the change, and were informed that the bring out the major decorations for the lobby only on Friday and Saturday now.

The only nod this year... and I'm surprised no one is talking about it... is that they've added a few Green Witch effects and storyline to the regular Calico Mine Train, even in the day version. It's more mood than scary, and I wouldn't compare it to a full "haunted" attraction by any means. But it was a nice, small, surprise.

WARNING:

I just got back from Knott's Berry Farm today and the Calico Mine Ride has some Haunt effects turned on during the day. There are some minor ghost effects (sort of like the graveyard in the Haunted Mansion) and the silhouette of a dancing witch projected onto the side of the glory hole. But the worst is in the beginning, an animatronic box next to the train opens up quickly and a figure kind of like Chucky screams and shakes. I was quite surprised they did this, because some little kids were scared.
