Re: Knotts to update the Timber Mountain Log Ride!

This is great news, and I hope Calico Mine Train is next for a major refurbishment and upgrade. And then a new dark ride would really make Knott's shine again.

Am I correct in remembering a lot of waterfalls and some colored lights following the first drop (in the dark)? If so, I hope this is restored in the refurb.

^Yes, there was a great interior lighted waterfall section after the first in the dark drop. That's one of the main things I hope they restore myself. Anything else is a bonus.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Rumblings are that Ouimet has a soft spot for the park, apparently he spent a fair amount of unannouced time there when he worked for Disney. It doesn't hurt the fact that the Knott family are major unit holders in the company either.

Yes, "MrTour" you are correct. When Bud Hurlbut, designer and builder of the ride, operated it, the "Cave Room" as we called it had underwater lights that reflected all over the walls and ceiling and the waterfalls and rock work across the reservoir also had lights. Garner Holt will do an excellent job of refurbishing the ride. I know a lot of us can't wait to see the results. Thanks Knott's for taking care of this historic ride.

This is why I bought a an anual pass. Chances of me going to So-Cal more than once is slim this year. I did not re-new the Disneyland pass. Knotts is a true treasure. Hire me knott's. For less than 3.5 Million the park can be fxed.

Re: Knotts to update the Timber Mountain Log Ride!

While I'm excited that Cedar Fair has finally decided to refurb TMLR, its a shame that its taken this long for them to do it.

I remember way back when (well not THAT way back, maybe 2006-07), Bud Hurlbut approached Knott's and asked if they needed any help with the Log Ride, since it had just recovered from a structural collapse. Knott's just brushed him off. A shame that the designer for Mine Ride and Log Ride was brushed off like that. Mine ride is in a bad way, as well. It REALLY needs some work....

Just so everyone can relax the the theme and scenes will remain, I sent Garner Holt Productions an email.

    Hi SparkChaser,

Thanks for your note and enthusiasm for GHP—I would have to agree with your sentiments, it is quite a cool place to work.

Don’t worry—no fast ones will be pulled with the Log Ride refurbishment. We’re sticking to the original period setting and storyline, plussing it here and there, and making the experience more immersive and detailed than ever. We’re all big fans of the ride, too!

    Here comes May!

    Best,

    Bill

Your are about 20 feet above the reservoir. The pumps are on the othe side of the wall on your right.

This is going to be awsome! Can't wait
The new Star Wars plot summery:

Episode 7: Luke discovers that Darth Vader is not his father, and goes on a search for his real father

Episode 8: Darth Vader is resurrected and goes on Jerry Springer, claiming he is Luke and Leia's father

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.

Just a couple more months and the Log Ride will reopen. It's still under rehab.
