Re: Knotts to update the Timber Mountain Log Ride!

I'd like to apologize in advance for not snapping any photos, but I was at Knott's today and was checking out the progress of the refurb....wow, the new paint job the mountain got really looks good!! Makes the ride look new again, especially when you compare it to the Calico Mine Ride right across the way.

The ride still has a month until it opens, but thus far, Knott's has really knocked this one out the park.

Knott's Berry Farm log ride to get updates, more animatronics

The Timber Mountain Log Ride, one of the first log flume rides in the country, is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation that will update the classic attraction's sound effects, lighting, foliage, and animatronic figures.
Knott's has not revealed the cost of the overhaul, but with the help of animatronics designer and developer Garner Holt Productions, the theme park is hoping to significantly upgrade the 2,100-foot-long ride while staying true to the original storyline of a lumber camp in 19th century California.

While the original ride contained just 15 animatronic figures, the refurbished attraction will soon feature 54 fully-animated characters, all new background drops, updated foliage, lighting, and a fresh, crisper soundscape.

Housed inside of an eight-story building, the Timber Mountain Log Ride, which opened in 1969, takes riders through an 85-foot-high by 330-foot-long mountain range of pine forests, waterfalls, and bridges.

Can't wait to see the refurbished ride, sounds like all very good news. Knott's even can be slightly more relaxing than Disneyland to visit lately....

And I'd like to give Knott's a lot of credit. They are renovating a classic to improve their image. They are respecting a loved attraction that's over 4 decades old. Disney did the same, but to add animitronics to sell a movie franchise.

So is the house next door going to keep up with the Joneses? I don't mean Disney, I mean the mine train across the way.

I heard an interview with Matt Ouimet saying the Calico Mine Ride will be refurbished if the Log Ride is a success, which is basically saying that it is going to happen. After that expect a new dark ride -- or at least that was heavily insinuated.

I don't know if this has been posted in another thread.. but my goodness they did a fantastic job on this ride. I just pray that the Calico Mine Ride receives the love the log ride got.

Can anyone confirm if the attraction still has the stern "SIT DOWN" voice when you sit up slightly with your hands up? That is one of my favorite parts of the whole thing!

I went on it this morning and forgot to test it. I love the SIT DOWN, SIT DOWN, just before the big drop.
