Never seen anything remotely like that in 7 years of attending Haunt with guests getting into fights, but overall, the event is crawling with Knott's private security and police officers both. The one time a (individual) person was making trouble in one of the mazes, seemed to be belligerent towards employees, security was around him inside a specific maze within 15 seconds and surrounded and removed him. Not sure of course if they followed him from somewhere else, but there are people enough working the event with walkie-talkies to be in contact and locate guests who are causing issues and handle it efficiently (plus, metal detectors required to pass-through on the way in so any fights will be of non-lethal sort before security gets there - not that I've personally ever seen any break out).
In the past there has been issues, but recently I haven't heard of anything. You'll be fine!
This. There *used* to be serious problems. I personally got into an altercation with a gang while working a maze.
Since then they've changed how they handle things. They monitor the spots where it's possible to wall jump into the park or toss weaponry, they sweep the crowd on the way in with metal detectors and pull people out for more detailed searches if needed, and security's everywhere.
I *have* seen a fistfight in the past few years, but as far as I could tell it had more to do with the beer the guys had been drinking than anything else.
There's gangs everywhere so you should be weary wherever you go, period.
That's a little misleading.
Yes, criminal gangs are currently a fact of life. But given the question - "Im wondering if there any violent gangs that hangout at night during Scary Farm." - the problems that used to be there are nowhere near the same level. I go to more Haunt nights than regular at most given themeparks in recent years, and I've yet to see anywhere near the same issues that occured in the 1980s and 1990s. Theme parks in general saw the issue, and each has dealt with it in their own way - and judging by the lack of major issues, apparently pretty well.
I can tell you from seeing first hand that the police presence is huge , many officers aren't even in the public eye but staged in different locations backstage to assist as needed along with Knott's security. Cameras are everywhere. I know there were a few issues but were quickly removed to the backstage area out of view. So if you do happen to see something, it won't be for long. All areas of the park are protected and patrolled including the parking areas. Its pretty safe at least once inside.
