There's already a thread in the correct place in the movie forum.

It all starts with the script. If it's good, Abrams will do it justice. If it's Phantom Menace or Attack of the Clones...not sure anyone could help those.

    This is True.
In the quest for quality, I have no problem with the characters footing the bill.

J.J. Abrams did the Star Trek franchise justice probably more than any director has for any reboot in history. If there's anyone who can help reboot the image of Star Wars while retaining it's celebrated roots it's J.J.!

Just so he doesn't create a parallel Star Wars universe.

Episodes 7, 8, and 9 are NOT "franchise reboots."

Hopefully this means JJ won't be doing Trek anymore. He's a Star Wars guy at heart and trying to make Kirk into Han Solo is not Trek. JJ's first Trek movie was entertaining but it wasn't Trek at its heart; it was a good space action movie that happened to feature iconic Star Trek characters. He should be good for Star Wars though.

This will probably be his last Trek movie from what I'm guessing. He'll probably hand it over to someone else after this

After episodes 1-3, I dont blame people for wanting to 'reboot' that crap
There is no right or wrong in this debate. It is simply a matter of perspective.

Loved Star Trek so I'm eager to see what he can do with a
new franchise. So long as he keeps everyone who has already died in the previous movies dead (especially Darth Vader) and doesn't have Jar Jar Binks in it ill be happy no matter hhow many lens flares there are.

Didn't the cast and crew sign on for two more Star Trek movies after the sucess of the first J.J.Abrams movie?

The current Star Trek crew are signed up for three movies so they're under contract for one more after the May release. I guess we'll have to wait and see how Into Darkness does at the box office, though JJ and others have said they were looking to do three and be done.

Michael Arndt, writer of Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine is handling the writing duties. I think the script won't be a problem.

Latest report I saw, had JJ returning to produce, but not necessarily locked into direct the next Trek sequel. As much as paramount will want another Box Office Blockbuster, as you say, nothing will be sure until figures come in from this year's release.
