    'Avengers' Towers With $103.2 Million

"Avengers" crosses the $1 billion mark worldwide in only 19 days and is the first film in history to hit $100 million in its second weekend
    at the domestic box office

Breaking another record, The Avengers grossed a stunning $103.2 million during the weekend in North America, becoming the first movie to cross the $100 million mark in its sophomore outing and falling a slim 50 percent.

Worldwide, Avengers expects to jump the $1 billion mark on Sunday after only 19 days, matching the speed record set by Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, as well as becoming the 11th top grossing title of all time.
The performance of the Joss Whedon-directed Avengers superhero pic is a substantial victory for Marvel Studios and its parent company Disney, propelling Disney's film division to No. 1 in domestic market share as of Sunday.

Avengers' global box office already has surpassed the global box-office totals of setup films Captain America: The First Avenger ($364 million), Thor ($449 million), Iron Man ($585 million) and Iron Man 2 ($624 million).

Internationally, Avengers already has eclipsed the three Spider-Man pics and The Dark Knight to become the most successful superhero title of all time.

AliasD, curious if you know the answer to this: Is there a reason why Disney's own brand/logo didn't start the movie off?

    "The Avengers"
    sink "Battleship"

Final numbers are in Monday but The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline Hollywood are reporting:

Disney's "The Avengers" took in $56.5 million this weekend and now sits at $1.18 billion worldwide. The international box office is $723.3 million and the current domestic box office at $457.1 million, the studio's best showing ever. It places the film at #4 on the All-Time highest grossing films globally, the #10 film all time domestically and #9 all time internationally.

Universal Pictures' "Battleship" from director Peter Berg took in $9 million on it's opening day Friday and treaded water to a dismal $25.3 million weekend. In comparison Disney's "John Carter" opened to $30.2 million in March. "Battleship" has already taken in over $226.8 million internationally.

    Re: 'The Avengers'

'Avengers' is off IMAX screens after today but return business remains strong & "MIB3" has picked-up some positive industry reviews and box office projections, possibly $200 million worldwide.

I'd look to book 'Avengers' back on IMAX screens later this year closer to pre-home entertainment release for the holidays.

    Re: 'The Avengers'

Disney and Marvel Studios’ The Avengers remains a formidable force in its fourth weekend, grossing an estimated $37 million for the three days on its way to earning $47.1 million for the four-day weekend.

Disney says the film’s global gross is now $1.3 billion — just short of the $1.33 billion earned by the final Harry Potter pic, the third biggest title of all time.

And over the weekend, it became the fastest film to cross $500 domestically (23 days).

    Box Office Milestone:
    'The Avengers' Becomes
No. 3 Pic of All Time
    With $1.331 Billion

The Disney and Marvel Studios superhero extravaganza surpasses "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2."
A month in, Joss Whedon's The Avengers continues to make box office history.

On Friday, the Disney and Marvel Studios' tentpole surpassed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 to become the third-biggest tile of all time at the worldwide box office with a cume of $1.331 billion.

The final Harry Potter film, released in July 2011, earned $1.328 billion.

Avengers will rest at No. 3. Avatar remains the No. 1 title of all time with a worldwide gross of $2.8 billion, while Titanic is safe at No. 2 ($1.8 billion). Both those films are from James Cameron.

Avengers also shattered another record domestically on Friday, surpassing The Dark Knight to become the third top grossing film of all time with a cume of $538.1 million. Dark Knight earned $533 million domestically.

Internationally, Avengers has now earned $793.2 million, the fifth-best showing of all time.
