Is Titanic number 2 because they are counting the 3d re-release numbers or are those separate?

Added revenue to existing lifetime totals, the 3D release pushed it's worldwide total over the $2 billion mark. It also broke previous records for the film with huge numbers pulled in internationally especially in China.

    Re: 'The Avengers'

'Avengers ' passes $600 million today

As of today, Marvel's Avengersis #3 domestically, #4 internationally, and #3 globally in terms of worldwide box office. And the Disney film still is yet to open in Japan, which takes place on August 17th. Right now its gross is $1.438B.

But today the mega-hit superhero assembly crosses $600M at the domestic box office, which surpasses the original 2D domestic run of the Fox/Paramount co-venture Titanic ($600,788,188) and was the 2nd highest grossing domestic film in history. Of course none of these figures are adjusted for inflation and higher ticket prices and 3D premiums.

What’s even more incredible is that the pic is still solidly in the Top 10 domestically after opening the first week in May. Congrats, Joss Whedon and cast.

    Re: 'The Avengers'

Through June 30, the majors have recorded a combined $6.6 billion in foreign box office, slightly ahead of the comparable $6.513 billion notched in the first six months of 2011.

This is a fairly impressive showing given that only three of the companies managed to gross more than a billion each (as compared with four last year by June 30), and that the European Soccer Tournament siphoned off theatrical attendance last month.

Propelled by the amazing $841.6 million foreign figure compiled by Marvel’s The Avengers – plus the respectable $208.1 million generated offshore by the ill-fated John Carter -- Disney finished first among big studios, compiling slightly more than $1.385 billion, down slightly more than $100 million from $1.487 billion grossed in 2011’s first half.

    Re: 'The Avengers'

Ending the summer in style, Disney and Marvel Studio's The Avengers hit $1.5 billion on Sunday, thanks to an aggressive Labor Day push.

Disney upped the film's domestic theater count to 1,700 on Friday, timed to the long holiday weekend. The superhero tentpole, opening in early May, was virtually done with its run.

Avengers was already the No. 3 film of all time behind Titanic ($2.2 billion) and Avatar ($2.8 billion), both from filmmaker James Cameron.

Joss Whedon directed Avengers, which grossed $1.7 million for the weekend for a new domestic total of $619.5 million. Overseas, the pic's cume is now $874 million.
