How do I join in on the fun?

I've been a long time reader of MiceAge and Micechat and have always enjoyed seeing how much fun "Micechatter's" have at meets and events. I have been wanting to particpate many times (especially since I could sware I've met Fishbulb before when I first saw a pic of him on Micechat) but have always been intimidated and not sure how to go about fitting in with a group that already seems very familiar and friendly with each other. What can I expect at the meets and events and what's the best way to get involved? Expierenced and "newbie" Micechatter advice and comments welcome!

I have attended two meets now, The Gumball Rally 3 and The 2009 Halloween Haunt, I must say that I will not miss another event again, The micechat family is something like I have never experienced, I have never been apart of a club or a group of this kind and must say I am saddened I waited this long to find Micechat. I know the thoughts about going to your first events is nerve racking, You might not know anyone, you might be shy, let me assure you everyone treats you like you are one of there own, Dusty, fishbulb, lisa pratt55, Timmy55, chad, Monorail man, Mickeymousepal, Rocker, Kritter, Mickeymax, Rixter, the forbidden eye, And so many others. I mean everyone is great to you, and the worst part is when the events are over you start to miss everyone. If you come out next meet say hello and feel free to pull up some concrete But be prepared to have a great time and start making alot of new friends that all have the same things in common as you.

Yes, there are "groups" at the meets, but there are also many new people, and even if there are groups of friends, we are never shy about meeting new people.

Come to a meet, introduce yourself to someone you recognize from the boards. There is generally at least one moderator there at each meet.

I'll be there Sunday, come on up and say hi and I'll introduce you around.

Of course, considering your "Disney_Belle" and my wife is "Belle", you two are going to have to fight for the name.

If you are really shy (like me ) I suggest contacting any of the "regulars" on the board to see if they will be at the next meet you plan to attend and then letting them introduce you around just as sir clinks has offered for this weekend. The best part of the Micechat family is we are always looking for a few more members who share our love of Disney.

P.S. I will not be at a Disney meet until probably mid December.

I remember my first meet. A lot of folks who have been around offered to meet up with me first to ease me in. But I suppose it helped that I probably had maybe 500 posts by then so when people met me they were able to associate me with a poster.

But regardles, the Micechat meets are pretty fun and I've met some great folks from it. You just gotta get in there and do it.



But then again, when I first started going to the meets, they always ended with alcohol. That doesn't happen very much anymore so it probably does make a difference!

Hi Disney_Belle,

my recommendation would be to go to one of the regular weekly meets before that end of January mega meet that Yoyoflamingo was talking about, which you should also go to as well.

If you know ahead of time which Sunday you'll be there, feel free to make a "my 1st meet, who's going to be there" sort of thread and that way, whoever is going to be there will know to look out for you.

Yes, there are groups of friends within the community but they're very welcoming to new people. It's nothing at all like when you're the new person at school or work and trying to break into the social circles/cliques.

I have found that Micechatters treat you like an old friend right from the get go.

It can be a bit nerve-wracking, but by all means just show up, let someone know you're new, and someone will be sure to introduce you around.

You won't regret it.

I actually agree with going to a meet before the Anniversary meet. Those are the biggest meets of the year (usually over 200 people) and it can be VERY overwhelming to people for their first meet. With this next year being MiceChat's 5th Anniversary, it is possible this one could be the biggest ever.

Our first meet was the 1st Anniversary and it was VERY overwhelming. Not that I didn't feel welcome, because I absolutely did but it took a few more smaller meets (and the WDW Invasion) before I actually felt 100% comfortable.

If you have no choice but to make your first meet the Anniversary meet, I'd suggest trying to meet up at one of the morning meets prior to the noon meet. We will generally have a "Breakfast" meet at Riverbelle and that will give you a great opportunity to sit down, chat and get to know some people before the BIG noon meet.

Hopefully this helps you out.

Join us every Sunday at Disneyland for the MiceChat traditional Noon meet and Greet.

You'll find us in the Central Hub (Just next to the Walt and Mickey statue). We tend to chat and socialize for about half an hour and then break off to have lunch and ride a few attractions. Feel free to come and go as you please. Groups may stick together or may break apart at any time. It is a very informal and free-form event, and a lot of fun.

If you've never been to a noon meet and are interested, please don't be shy. Just step right up to anyone and say "Hi, I'm new - my name is . . . " and in no time, you'll be an old friend. If you are really shy, contact someone in advance and let us know you'll be there; we'll arrange to introduce you to the group.

That's pretty much about it Joshnyah.

Some people just come for the meet, some stay for the lunch and then break off, some groups stay around for an hour or two, some hang out until closing. You just never know.

For us, it pretty much depends on where the group eats lunch at.
