Disney's Beauty and the Beast... and Redlands!

Next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, July 20, 21, and 22, Disney's Beauty and the Beast will be performed at the Redlands Bowl as part of the 80th Redlands Summer Music Festival. The performances begin at 8:15 each night, but the bowl will fill up early (capacity: 6,000). Bowl shows are free of charge, though there will be a good-will offering at intermission. This festival, the oldest free music festival in the United States, features high caliber performances, and the summer musical is no exception. I saw part of a rehearsal last week, and it was wonderful.

We will be meeting Saturday evening at 6:00 at the east entrance of the Redlands Mall. We'll purchase picnic-style meals from one of the many local restaurants, and then eat together at the bowl before the performace.

The Redlands Bowl is located in Smiley Park, in one of the nation's largest intact historic Victorian/Craftsman neighborhoods, about 1/2 mile south of Interstate 10.

Redlands is approximately 52 miles from Disneyland. Take I-10 east to Redlands, and exit at "Orange Street". At the bottom of the ramp continue straight one block to the next light. Turn right. The Redlands Mall is about 1/4 mile south, on the right-hand side. There is great shopping and dining (for any budget) in the downtown area, so you may want to show up earlier. (Note: it is abnormally hot this year; dress accordingly).

So... who'd like to go?

Wow! Are they performing it Broadway style, or their own interpretation of the film?

It's the actual broadway script and score, with pared down sets. Performance-wise, expect a Grade "A" show. The rehearsal I saw was first rate.

Check out this link, http://www.redlandsbowl.org/season_schedule.htm for an idea of the caliber.

Re: Disney's Beauty and the Beast... and Redlands!

Ok, I just got back from watching the full dress-rehearsal (easily 5,000 people in attendence. Seriously) and the show is WONDERFUL. It is the broadway-style show, with a simpler but very clever and well done set; the orchestra is wonderful, the acting and singing are superb, and the dancing, costumes, and effects are terrific!! The crowd loved it!

And it's free!

It is suggested that you get there around 5 p.m. if you want a good seat.

I would love to be able to go, but we're going to be in Temecula this weekend. I'm sorry to miss it. I loved seeing Othello with everyone!

Next time, next time!

Re: Disney's Beauty and the Beast... and Redlands!

The weather is excruciating this summer... dress as lightly as possible (while still remaining decent!).

My sister and brother-in-law went last night and they said it starting to fill up by 7:00. That should help a little regarding the heat.

Re: Disney's Beauty and the Beast... and Redlands!

The Wolfpack made it out to Redlands for the Beauty and the Beast Show. Speederscout was a very gracious host and we had a wonderful time at the Redlands Bowl. It was a little hot (118 degrees), but by evening it cooled down to only 103 . The show was great and the volunteer actors did a wonderful job. I highly recommend a trip out here if you want a nice weekend getaway with a free musical. Redlands is a quaint little town filled with antique shops and old Victorian Homes.

Did have a slight incident, before the show started the winds came up and a tree branch broke and fell about 30 ft and hit someone working te concession stand. She was not injured to badly. Made for some excitement before the show.

Thank you to Speederscout for the invitation, and we look forward to going out again.
