“Sleeping Beauty” Special Exhibit

Not surprisingly, it was also his most expensive animated feature: the film cost $6 million to make, an astounding amount in the 1950s.
The film was released on January 29, 1959 as the first animated picture released in the new wide-screen 70-mm “Technirama” format. Its riveting score, partly based on Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Sleeping Beauty,” was recorded in stereophonic sound, and was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award®.
