Great read, I appreciate the stories and inspirations behind Disneyland attractions like this. Before I just knew that the Columbia as 'the first American ship to circumnavigate the globe' as I think I remember from the on-board spiel. Most people probably just see the ship and don't think much about it. Other interesting 'origin of/inspiration of' stories might be: the Mark Twain, New Orleans Square, different aspects of Main Street, I'm sure the list can go on...

Other than the fact that I break out in boils every time I look at the south end of Tom Sawyer Island, it's simply... swell.
