Got the previous version so I'm sticking with that. Gonna save my money for Beauty and the Beast which I don't have yet.

Here's Ultimate Disney's review of the new DVD:

The Great Mouse Detective DVD Review (Mystery in the Mist Edition)

Without a Blu-ray release, this does seem pointless as the new transfer appears to be one made from scratch using the original film reels (with title card lacking the 1992 reissue "The Adventures of" add on) with a different aspect ratio that shows more image on the sides and bottom, but slightly less at the top.

1.75:1 is probably the correct theatrical presentation, but 1.78:1 was likely chosen to match 16:9 displays.
I like The Happiest Millionaire. What's wrong with that?

Sure it does -- if you're Disney.

You crank out a recycled product for cheap that has the appearance of giving the consumer something new, and a certain number of people will buy it.

    Money in the bank.

Well I caved and bought it. It's got a slipcover. It's got DMR points. It was the cheapest new release DAC DVD in recent memory ($9.99 @ Future Shop)
