Re: 7/20: Untold Story, Pt. I

Earl Vilmer was correct in his visionary statement that "the steam locomotive would never become useless" - and that Disneyland would substantiate his belief.

The man toiled long and hard honing his craft as a world class locomotive machinest and mechanic. Walt Disney was as fortunate to forge a working friendship with Earl as he was Walt. I also applaud the man for his railroad line building at a critical time when America was at war. Like Walt, Earl was a red, white and true patriot.

Disneyland must have been the largest attraction project prior to openening day. Whith this in mind, it's amazing that Vilmer was able to oversee the project in such a coordinated fashion that it was the first attraction to be completed. Here's to you Mr. Vilmer! Thank you for all the wonderous experiences on and conected to the Disneyland Railroad...experienced by me, my family, my friends...and even memorable moments shared with other park going guests that I had not previously known.

A Main Street Station window is a GREAT idea, DL!

This was a terrific article. I can't wait for part two. Once I've read that, I'll certainly write to Disney about awarding Mr. Vilmer Disney Legends status and (better still) a window on the Main Street Station.

Thanks Steve for the article. I knew the name Earl Vimer from Michael Broggies book but I had actually forgot about him. Looking forward to part two.
