Re: 5/30: How Sweet it is...

I remember getting a free sample from Ghiradelli at Downtown Disney in Orlando. If the Ghiradelli at DCA does give samples, you can take the chocolate and put it on top of the slice of sourdough bread you get at the Boudin Bakery tour and that will make a tasty treat. Ghiradelli will be a good addition to DCA, however, I wish it had been See's. See's has better tasting chocolate and they don't use preservatives. Still, as a chocololic, I'm happy to hear the news of Ghiradelli coming to the Parks.

Too bad they aren't licensing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and doing a candy factory tour complete with a river of chocolate. That would be awesome, and they could clone it in Disney Hollywood Studios to be a counterweight to Harry Potter. Of course, there's no room for these blue sky ideas in the Mission Tortilla Factory.

According to that site there are soda fountains in San Francisco, Monterey, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami and Orlando (at Downtown Disney). There also used to be one in Pasadena. It will hardly be unique, but it will be a nice addition to the park.

Once, I was a contestant on "Millionaire" and when the hostess asked me what I liked best about the park, I said, "The tortilla factory!" I got a few laughs from the audience.

I made it to the 32,000 point level and got the free baseball cap and the free polo shirt and I still have all the collector's pins.

There should be a sticky thread called "This Day in Disney History." The company has a long history and this would be a good way to acknowledge it. Walt was born 112 years ago; that's quite a chunk of American history and culture.

I love that the chocolate company will be Ghirardelli simply from the standpoint that the original building in San Francisco has so much charm and character to it. The architecture alone will add to the overall "California" feel so desperately needed to enhance the ugly duckling of DCA. My grandfather used to say, "even bad chocolate is still chocolate."

A Ghirardelli factory and soda fountain is a welcome change. I like free tortillas, but I like chocolate a lot more.
