Oh my gosh! I had tears in my eyes as I read this. Thank you so much for this article and the great pictures.

I am a First Grade Teacher's Aide and one of the boys in my class is on this cruise. His grandmother has worked at the park for 20 years so she and grandpa took him and his brother on this cruise. I can hardly wait to hear all the stories he (and she) are sure to tell.

I, too, will have to go down to San Pedro and see this ship sail past Ports 'O Call and listen to its horn.

    Making "Magic" Waves

    Great sea faring report, Tina!

The jet skis with festive kites trailing behind them must have been cool - even cooler than the ocean breeze. You captured some marvelous shots of the fireboat shooting water in all directions, and of the lighthouse and fireworks. Perhaps best of all was the unplanned surfacing of the California gray whale, as if to serve as nature's ambassador in giving a welcoming salute to the Disney Magic on her maiden west coast run - making magic waves, and in-depth fun. Loved that naughtical hat of yours, with the Mickey ears.

As a former WDW CM, I can tell you that from day 1 of DCL it has always been presumed that there would eventually be a West Coast ship. Although, DL's 50th Anniversary is the impeteus for putting the ship out there, I wouldn't be the least be surprised if DCL isn't watching the response to judge wether or not to move it out there permanetly and bring a third ship on-line.

Actually, there's already a 3rd ship in production right now. I really don't know if Disney wants to make the West Coast cruises a permanent thing, but one thing's for sure, whatever happens this summer will certainly influence Disney's plans. It's sad to see the cruise line not being booked to capacity, it sounds like if things do not change, there won't be a strong case for moving the cruise line out here.

By the way, have you guys seen how much these cruises cost? It's no wonder they can't fill them! We've got Las Vegas a few hundred miles away and Disney wants us to pay thousands of dollars. Now, I know the main appeal to Disney's Cruise Line is you can bring the kids along, but isn't that what Disneyland is for? If you want something to do with the kids take them to the Grand Canyon or Colorado River or a national park, it's much cheaper and they'll remember it more when they get older. I mean, in Florida you've got theme parks aplenty, but there's no equivalent of the myriad of options that Southern California offers you for entertainment. I'm not saying the Cruise Line isn't fun, I'd absolutely LOVE to be on it, but in California there's so many more entertainment options for WAY less money than that.

In any case, I really hope the Cruise Line succeeds out here because it's always nice to have that option available. Disney really puts its stamp on the cruise industry and there's really no other ship like the ones in the Disney Cruise Line.

I was on the Press Boat with Tina and took lots of photos (both serious and fun). You can view them all here.

The boat is just amazing. I am not a cruise fan. It has just never sounded appealing to me. But, when I saw the Magic set sail - and heard the "When You Wish Upon a Star" horn, my heart went pitter patter and I wished I was aboard. Alas, I will have to be comforted by The Columbia at Tokyo Disney Seas.

I am not familiar with the pricing, but I know the one huge reason I will never go on a Disney Cruise...There are no casinos. I would never want to see gambling in the parks, but whilst at sea, I think gambling is a major draw for cruisers. I realise that gambling is not "Disney" at all-- but it's the one thing they don;t have, and everyone else does on thier ships.

I disagree completley. Let's look at the 150 mile circle around Orlando...
Obviously, the WDW property has Way more than theme parks. From Sailing and waterskiing to Shows and Golf, WDW has more than a person could reasonably enjoy in months! There are, of course, lots of theme parks-- including WDW. There are TWO-- count them-- TWO oceans to play in. There are Space Shuttle Launches, The Daytona 500, The Everglades, Spring Baseball Training for at least 4 teams, etc., etc.

Not that Southern California isn't great with the pollution, traffic and violence...

I don't know. Both have their draws, it just depends on what you prefer. So Cal has more variety than any other place in the US. Where can you ski and go to the beach or the desert in the same day? Florida is interesting but the heat gets to me almost immediately. I also am not a fan of the Atlantic beaches (I'm admittedly spoiled by California). Golf in either place does nothing for me. The Everglades are cool - I like swamps in general and we don't have Gators in So Cal.

City and culture wise- California wins hands-down. Between LA and SF, only Chicago and NYC are close or better. Florida is pretty wasteland in comparrison.

I'm just glad we have a variety of environs to choose from.

What a great day you must have had. Not Afraid, those are great pictures, and the story and article on Mice Age is just great. I want to go on a Disney Cruise so bad, but that will never happen. Oh well, at least we can go down sometime this summer to Ports O Call and watch it sail. That would be so cool. Are you reading sister dear?

Yes! We will have to work on a Saturday this summer. I searched the Disney site and found the ship comes back into port at 8 something in the morning and sails out around 4. Times are approximate due to sailing conditions. But it would be fun to go down there.

I think you two should do that and let me know when you are going. I live not far from there. We could do lunch!
