The overall paradigm and environment of Disneyland is the "candy wrapper" that makes all of those executions work so well. It all happens to you in one great day. Parades, fireworks, shows, rides, everything compressed into one hyper expereince. On their own most of the rides would never creatively stand up. context and critical mass are king here.

DCA by comparison, lacks any convincing immersion or sense of escape from the real world as you are always aware that you are in a parking lot. This severely handicaps DCA, in that these big rides are just plopped in there.

The real key to outspending is not to waste the resources, but to know what you want to emotively achieve and keep your eye on that ball. so there is more to it than ornamentation, it's knowing how to suspend disbelief.
