    Re: 5/16: Fort Wilderness Demolition

As an old-timer, I've missed the Fort. I loved the tunnel most of all. But I can understand the reasons for taking it down.

Has it occurred to anyone that perhaps there's a cost savings by doing it now rather than later? After all, they've got heavy equipment over there now, so why delay, and pay to have it brought over a second time?

According to Darkbeer earlier, the restroom section of the Fort WILL remain. As previously reported, that restroom will be wheelchair accessible. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if that restroom was not open for the 1st month or so due to the demolition of the fort.

Its about dang stinkin' time. The thing was rotted and termite infested. The Fort has been closed for years anyway. While a part of Walt's personal touch is gone...what did Fort Wilderness have to do with Tom anyway? I don't recall reading a Sawyer novel that had him visiting a frontier log fort.

be careful, cause disney might begin selling log for girls and log for boys, not to mention princess and Pirate Log...

Is the Fort and Island at WDW in good shape and worth visiting? I'm ashamed to say I didn't even go during my last trip but definitely plan to visit when I go in November.

Hope they replace it with something good that is stll tied in with the frontier theme rather than pirates. Watch, next thing they'll want to do is replace the Mark Twain with a pirate ship so it fits the remade TSI.

Our fort is barely messed with, still has guns if i remember, and has a lot of the older stuff your used to have, and its more sound since its fiberglass, (which i did not know till Werner Weiss said that)
