Great article! Hey I have a question about the current location. Why is the old station set back so far? Was there a siding there at the present location, too. If there was, I'm guessing it was removed during Splash Mountain construction?
Timon, the passing siding was re-installed following the station's last move in 1962. However, by that late date, the original operating scheme to have train pass one another had been discontinued for many years, meaning the siding was unused. So it appears that placing the station that far back may have been just for aesthetic purposes.
The siding was not there prior to Splash's construction. I suspect it was removed sometime in the 1960s--but that's just a guess for the time being.
