Balloon lady at the mall. Jerk teenagers would mess with me and old guys would look down my polo shirt and ask "are those balloons for sale?" Ew! There was only two employees and the other lady would ride me for no reason.

I worked at an animal boarding place. Every morning I had to clean out the stalls that the dogs were in. I'd have to let the dogs onto the patio, hose out their stall, scrub it with a bleach/water mixture, hose it again and then squeegee it dry, and return the dogs. It sucked, it was loud from the barking and lots of the dogs pooped and peed in their stalls. It was no fun but I did get to play with all the cute dogs.

maybe I should start being more selective when it comes to applying jobs.

yeah these dogs can be so cute but alot of work with them.

Oh actually I take that back I did have a horrid job selling Cutco knives one summer years ago. I felt like I was conned into it. And it was humiliating pitching these stupid spiels to my neighbors and friends. I think they bought the knives out of pity. I only lasted a month doing this.

Re: Worst jobs you're in

I worked food service at a water park for a few months when I was 16. On the first day of operation the fire sprinklers in our "hut" malfunctioned and ruined all our food. We were blamed for it and almost got written up. Stuff like this went on and we were stuck in that little place ALL SUMMER LONG with there was no air conditioning, fans OR FIRE SPRINKLERS!!!! When I finally put in my 2 weeks notice, my boss was all like "If you quit now, you can never come back and we'll give you a bad recomendation for your next job!" Well, she cant do that cuz it's illegal, and in March of this year I got a letter from the place asking me to come back.

I worked for a tee time reservation agency. Rich people would call up and pay us $300 for a tee time at Torrey Pines golf course that only cost us $55 to get. It was so mind-numbing I quit after only a week, even though they were paying me $32 an hour.

Re: Worst jobs you're in

A very long time ago (at least 12 years ago), I worked at a
Psychiatrist's office. The head Psychiatrist was my boss. In a word, she was a "word that rhymes with itch." I was hired as a Secretary, but she said that a Secretary was not a suitable title for a man and made me "Office Manager." I didn't get a raise in pay, though.

She was a big slob. She had a Jaguar, but there was trash everywhere in the car. When she filed away important papers, she tossed it in her trunk. She said that she stored the papers in the trunk because she wanted to keep them away from her kids. I had to go out once and find a document in her trunk. Well, her trunk had a bad odor and had a bunch of wrinkly papers in it. It was like a hurricane blew papers off the street into her trunk. The papers were in random order. The papers were mixed with trash. I dug through papers that were wrinkled, had coffee rings on them, or just smelled. I found client letters, bills, medical records, and all sorts of things that should be confidental or treated with more respect and order.

The office had a computer from 1982 (the hard drive was 400 MB!) and they still used it. I could have ran a Format C: on it on my last day. I could never figure out how much to bill clients because they never had a list on how much to charge them. The list seemed to have been locked away in their brains.

I made coffee everyday, but during the days when I was not in the office, the old coffee was left in the pot for days. I'd come back after a few days and I'd find lumpy things in the old coffee. This coffee maker was in the waiting room with patients!

After working there for about 2 months, I finally had it one day. My boss was talking with her friend. They made all sorts of sexist jokes and deogratory comments about me. I finally had it. I left for the day and left a message on their voice mail saying I couldn't stand the job anymore and quit.

I think their office is still around, but I've never seen my boss around town since.

Re: Worst jobs you're in

Levi's in Union Square. I only received training after I pestered the management (almost daily.) I had learned that there was a sales contest the day I was absent. If the store had passed, there would be pizza, if not, well - the store did not make it. They had the staff go outside, and run around the block. I was livid. Of course I refused, and told them off in a very unfamily friendly way. I took great pleasure in quitting that job. I still refuse to purchase anything Levi's.

Old Slavery - er, Old Navy. Long story short: lying, two faced management. Customers that wanted items that were marked down (sometimes costing $1 for an article of clothing) to receive a further discount. Highlight of my employment? Finding a bag of urine in a fitting room. Oh and being a witness to a manager cheating on his new wife with one of his direct subordinates. This happened outside of work. A group of us went to a concert. They didn't know I saw, nor did I let them know. Ah, good times. My manager was useless as well. When he saw that the department was going under, he was first to jump ship - even after reassuring the team that he was in it to stay.

First job: working on a site that sold construction equipment. Waking up at the crack of dawn to clean the area where the machines were cleaned, clearing weeds that were taller than me. This is where I picked up a particular loathing of blue collar workers. I think I shall burn a Mater effegy...

Wild Rivers Waterpark in Irvine. I worked two different seasons in two different sections (Food Service and Admissions). Food service at any entertainment park is absolutely horrid. I got so much crap thrown at me because the chicken pieces were too small, or something really stupid. Admissions was boring, since I usually worked the slower parts of the day and sat in the booth all by myself. I was yelled at sometimes at the entrance gates because I told people they couldn't bring in their inner tubes or water noodles.

The only thing I really liked about working there was seeing old friends and hot dudes in bathing suits. Ooo lala!

Re: Worst jobs you're in

Worst job was a part-time thing I picked up from a referral from an old business acquaintence. It was for a contracting company in an old run down office building - yet they were building multi-million dollar homes.

The owner was a complete scumbag and when I would show up to do the office work, he'd just tell me to "get to work" without ever telling me what he needed me to do. So I created spreadsheets for him so he could see how much money he had spent on building the homes, kept his finances in order, etc. Then he'd call me up from one of the properties and want me to call one of his vendors to hard ball 'em into giving him a steep discount " because he's nice." He'd either sneer when the discount I DID get him wasn't enough, or I'd get laughed at on the phone for suggesting a discount below the vendor's profit line.

He would also grab MY very nice expensive pen and chew on it while he would be on the phone! All the while adjusting himself. Several. Times.

I never knew if he would need me to come in either. I worked only on Fridays for him and each Friday I worked he'd say, "I'll call you to confirm next week." And he never did. It ticked me off because, at the time, I did have another job I could have been doing then if I had notice he wouldn't need me.

After about 5 weeks of all this (one day a week), and having not heard from him, I told him to go screw himself and that I would sue him if my paycheck didn't get mailed to me because I sure as anything wasn't going to go pick it up.

He mailed it.

Last I checked, he still hasn't sold any of the properties I was helping him with a year ago. Darn.

Re: Worst jobs you're in

About 10 yrs ago I worked for a long distance company whose name I wont mention (its what you do when you run very VERY fast) as customer service. That wasnt so bad. people would call and say they didnt make a phone call that appeared on their bill if it was under a minute we'd take it off...if it was more than a minute we'd just say "Yes you did". Easy as pie.

Then they switched gears and made us Sales/Service. As if it wasnt bad enough that people were calling us to complain about something that they thought wasnt working. We were supposed to sell them additional products now.

The average call went like this:
"I'm sorry that (insert sevice here) is not working to your satisfaction Mr(s). Customer. How about we set you up with an additional service that will not work either?"
