Flaky Flix are my "grandma cookies" she always, always had those at her house in the not-so-secret cookie drawer. Nothing says yummy memories like chocolate and cornflakes!

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

Wafer cookies covered in chocolate............yep, and cornflakes. What an invention! Please SOMEONE buy this company and continue the tradition. Seriously, how does a company like this go under? It's like when Krispy Kreme here in Phoenix went bankrupt. If you can't make a profit on a Krispy Kreme store perhaps franchise ownership isn't your thing.

disneyfan07 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

its not too late for the company to reconsider.

the way to prevent bankruptcy is this:

1) the ceo and the board can give up their benefits packages, and stock options
2) if a publicly traded company, delist(buy back all shares first of course)
3) if the company has debt(loans, etc), refinance at a lower rate, if possible

if not, HOW DARE THEY FILE FOR BANKRUPTCY??????

how can my nieces and nephews bounce off the furniture and the walls and stay up way too late beyond their bed times??????? how can they be kids now????????

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

I am stunned. They were/are an istitution. I loved the choc chip angel cookies, the sugar wafers, coconuts, taffies, double fudge sandwich cookies, of course the circus animals.
Maybe if I had bought more cookies. . . My grandma and I used to wolf down those sugar wafers when I'd visit her. It was the only cookie she liked. . . Mom would buy lots of Mother's cookies for the holidays, birthdays, okay, anyday. . . but she'd put a bag of taffies away just for me and her to share. *sigh*

Big cookie run in my immediate future. I hope they are still on the shelves.

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

I am sad My mother worked for Mothers Cake and Cookies for 42 years), I grew up on Mothers cookies. She started in the original plant and went to the 81st ave plant in Oakland with them when it was family owned by the Wheatley family.
She was also a single mom who raised me alone: she worked regular shift, swing shift , graveyard shift and combos of the above, I remember the phone number for contacting her in an emergency my whole life was Lockhaven (LO9) -2323. Also she had great vacation time and was able to see Europe and travel and put me through private school.
I had my fill of cookies my entire life , but you have never tasted a cookie untill you have had a hot macaroon or Angel or circus animal "off the line"
My oldest daughter also got to have this experience at the factory , we would go thru as " visitors" and get hot cookes .We would have lunch in the cafateria and she got oohed and ahhed by all the workers. My mom worked her way up from the lines to the ovens to the a supervisor to the lab for new product testing. In its day I believe it was a great company to work for which provided benefits, OT, medical leave etc...The entire factory honored her with a retirement party which my oldest daughter and I attended , at that time the company was truley a family when she retired in 1986.
I was lucky enough to attend with her as a retiree the 50th party held by the company at The Claremont Hotel in Oakland and snagged a cool centerpiece and video of the event.
My kitchen holds a wonderful cooked jar with the company logo and my BEST knife that she got in recognition for serving on the safety committee.
The first cookies I brought my Grandsons were of course " Mothers there are no others,"
I am sad , another one bites the dust, it saddens me that an another original american company bites the dust... and I can imagine my Mom , rest her soul and whom I miss daily ,baffled by our world today,
And I wish that I still had her bringing me home a big case of Flakey Flix ... Mom you are missed and Mothers Cake and Cookies will be missed. Oddly enough there are 2 new cookies in our cookie jar that are Mothers one is a apple oatmeal raisin and a toffee cruch which were both labled as seasonal so I thought that we should try them, I have this strange habit that when I biuy cookies I buy Mothers of course its sort of a loyalty thing , a taste thing, and the fact that the company was good to us over the years so my thought has been to support it...l I guess it just wasnt enough

The pink and white Circus Animals were the only things that kept me sane during high school.

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

Great Story Dineyjunkie. Thanks for posting it.

My Aunt once dated a guy who worked for mothers. We called him the Cookie Man and he would bring us Macaroons and other varieties. These days I don't buy cookies from the store very often (I make my own which are generally much better), but Mothers was a good brand and I am sad to see them go.

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

I can't imagine those pink and white cookies, and the taffy's, and the oatmeals, and the english teas and the fudges will be no more. I should go buy them all up before they're gone. I'm heading to work soon so I can buy some on my break. Soo sad, they're soooo delicious. I'm not sure how they're going bankrupt, it's not like people don't buy a ton of cookies, especially the circus animal cookies around holidays when they come out in their festive colors. Sad, sad, sad, just so darn sad.

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

I bought me a bag of the frosted animal cookies on my break tonight and nearly cried eating them since there won't be any more. They aren't cheap yet either.

Re: No more frosted animal cookies...

I am in mourning!!!!! I loved these forever and I even got my high school friend's daughter hooked on them when she was little, in the early 80's, so, I know she's also in mourning. How unfair!!
