This is why I turn off the lights and pretend not to be home on Halloween! Seriously...I don't pass out candy. My dogs bark and get all wound up. Who needs it? I have a few neighbor kids that are wonderful and I will pack up a little bag of goodies for them but that's all.

On topic - I've recieved floss before.

Off topic - having grown up in Newport Beach, there was one lady who used to always hand out Godiva chocolate bars for Halloween. I'm not complaining...

Re: 10 most disappointed treats to get on Halloween

When I was little, there was one house that gave out full-sized candy bars and one that gave out a can of coco-cola to every kid. One house one year even gave us $2 because he ran out of his full-sized candy bars so he figured with the money, we could buy the kind we wanted.
We get very few kids in the 2 hours allowed for trick-or-treating, so we get a bag of candy that i'll eat if leftover.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban

i don't agree with this guy at all!

I love Dum Dums and tootsie rolls and Smarties!

And i'm kind of a dork in that i didn't mind raisins either when i was a kid!

And does he seriously want EVERYONE to hand out full size candy bars? GEEZ!

It's people like this guy who wants to keep the youth of america in elastic jeans and on Jenny Craig for kids!!!

Yeah that guy is crazy, all those candies are legit. Except I'm not a big fan of the Necco Wafers or Smarties. I'm shocked that people still hand out those peanut butter flavored taffies wrapped in orange and black, those are really nasty!
Let me tell you all not to waste your money on candy to hand out and here's why: I babysit several children in my neighborhood. They all get dressed up and go to the many houses in our area. Their parents THROW AWAY most of the candy!!! Actually, the mom across the street let her kids keep all of their candy and she kept it in the closet and everyone forgot about it a couple months later. So I would sneak in the closet and snag a bunch of candy, the rest was thrown away because it got old. We usually buy a fun size variety bag for the few kids that come around nowadays on Halloween and then we end up eating the rest. Or we try really hard not to be home.

Hahahahah! That's the first thing I thought of! With the economy today, (and to be safe, paper money is a better way to go.

Someone mentioned apples, BUT also add ANY kind of fresh fruit or vegetables to the "Do NOT give list." (Can you imagine anyone tempting fate by handing out tomatoes?????)

Do NOT give out Eggs!!! (Save them for Easter, and you'll look like a hero!)

Anyone who remembers "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" will sypathize with this"

Do NOT give rocks for Halloween! (not unless you are planning to replace your windows)

Do NOT give ANY kind of Dental Equipment for Halloween (And if you still insist on handing out toothbrushes, make sure to include a travel sized Cinnamon flavored toothpaste. mmmmmmm)

Do NOT give ANY kind of Reading Material (not even Bazooka Joe Bubble gum - that stuff is usually WAY too hard to chew)

Do NOT give out Toilet Paper (Not even the indivually wrapped rolls)

Do NOT give out hard candy (unless you live in a nursing home, where caramel is frowned upon, well as best as they can frown ) Same with Dates, Prunes, and Raisins. (If you insist on giving out hard candy, give each kid a good size handful of the stuff.)

Chocolate is Usually a welcome treat, BUT if you live in Phoenix and it's over 90 degrees outside, remember even m&m's melt EVERYWHERE! Hard candy is accepted in this situation

Do NOT give out McDonald's French Fry gift certificates - do I even need to explain this one?

Do NOT give out pencils, or other five cent plastic party favors (Target seems to be promoting some weird halloween colored "treats")

Re: 10 most disappointed treats to get on Halloween

The most disappointing thing I ever got was what appeared to be a giant chocolate coin, but was rally soap. No I did not try and eat it. i was warned ahead of time. The man giving them away lived on my street and was my teacher at the time.

I agree with the pennies - I actually liked getting toothbrushes from the dentist that lived in my neighborhood.

I also hated getting jawbreakers - I usually give out little candy bars or the wonka mix - but I always supplement with dum dums and give out a couple. We do a trunk or treat, and the candy goes out at a fast and furious pace.

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

I am NOT coming to your house.

Can we make our own lists?

    2. Floss
    3. Pencils (but I will admit, I got some awesome pencils one time).
    4. Bookmarks
    5. Carrots
    6. Raisins
    7. Coupons on dental care (I've got these before )
    8. Super hard old candy (Such as chewing gum. Bleck)

Haha. Man, when I was a kid, we actually had a lady that would give out pennies on my block. I just started avoiding her house.

And dum dums? It wouldn't be Halloween without them!

Worst thing we've ever gotten trick or treating, a handful of rice. Uncooked rice, I swear.
