Dubailand

Dubai Architecture-

I knew they were building a lot in Dubai, but I had not heard of Dubailand. They say after it is completed it will surpass walt disney world as the #1 tourist destination. It's almost at the bottom of the page.

I do like the architecture of the buildings they are working on.

Won't be me... unless I hit the lottery. And even then, I think I'll just spring for a suite in the Grand Californian and go to Disneyland instead.

Number? The number is currently on hiatus and is residing on a tropical island somewhere with a big fruity drink. I mean drinking the fruity drink not with... or maybe they are together... um?

Re: Dubailand

I know I won't, but maybe people who live in that region of the world...or people with money who want to experience the newest things.

I saw an episode on some channel my Bf watches on who they built that palm island. It was very interesting and because the sea is always trying to reclaim it they have to do constant maintenance which costs a fortune.

All the oil money being out to some use I guess.

Re: Dubailand

I saw where they built that island. They also built one that looks like the world. You can buy a little version of whatever country you want. IF you have the money.

LIke Pengy....even if I had the money...I still don't think I'd go.

Re: Dubailand

The whole Dubai thing is interesting. They are doing all of this building to become the largest tourist destination because their country is scheduled to run out of oil in 2014 (or something like that) so they had the forsight to re-invent themselves while they have the oil. I'm not sure I would ever visit there. Their laws are still driven by their religion and therefore much stricter than what we are used to and very sexist. But I really don't think they need the western hemisphere in order to make their plan work.

Re: Dubailand

My cousin and her husband have been, then again they are loaded! It looks like an amazing place to visit, they said it was extremely hot there and I don't doubt that. I wonder if there are any cooler times to go. Someday I hope to visit there, that would be awesome.

I hear ya. I haven't even seen Paris, France yet and I'm still dreaming about that travel.

Those Dubai structures are amazing.

No alcohol? Never get me there...

Dubai is a hangout for the oil Shieks. (and now Haliburton) Ever wonder where the dollars you pay for your gasoline goes? Now you know ...the rest of the story.

I think this will happen too, at least until the more liberal social norms of Europe start to clash with the much more restrictive laws of the emirate.
