Re: How do you handle disappointment?

Some friends have seem to have done things that makes me disappointed in them, but when you live across the country from them and don't get to talk a whole lot, you can't really judge the situation or anything.

One friend, who has a history of last-minute disappointments (including times when we were supposed to work on school projects together), is currently PO'd at me because she was the one who texted me half an hour before we were supposed to leave to go to an event saying that she didn't want to go anymore, then was mad when I went the next weekend with a different friend who wanted to go.

When it's a family member, it's harder to express disappointment for some reason. A friend you may eventually grow apart from but you don't grow apart from family too easily and you'd have to live with it and it could create a rift.

Re: How do you handle disappointment?

I'm disappointed right now and I am NOT handling it well at all.

Give me a week and maybe I'll be in a better mood.

Right now I'm very...

Re: How do you handle disappointment?

I am a pouter. When I was a kid, and something would go wrong, I would pout. Sometimes, I would go to bed early. I soon realized that pouting didn't really make me feel better. Talking about things is a better alternative. However, for some of life's disappointments, talking doesn't seem to change anything.

Re: How do you handle disappointment?

I sometimes eat.......but I try to divert it and exercise......but sometimes, there's nothing like drowning sorrows and disappointment in a delicious hot fudge sundae from Claim Jumper or Hof's Hut. But I can't do that all the time......can you imagine? My life has been filled with disappointment for the past couple of years......if I ate sundaes of this sort all the time, well, I'd be 600 lbs!

But also in times of disappointment......I also go to Disneyland.......to boost my 'spirit'.......get a few $$ out of the bank and take my little family and I to lunch at DLR and have a nice day.

Re: How do you handle disappointment?

I wish that I had a place nearby to escape to. I do agree that when life gets me down, I do sometimes head to the refrigerator. At my age, life has gotten me down pretty many times.

Re: How do you handle disappointment?

Depends who it is and what they did. I try these days to gauge the level of "promise" because like you say, Barbaraann, people say things and don't realize you're counting on them. I usually try to check back in with certain people to make sure they remember or meant the "promise" in the first place. Most of my actual friends I know will be somewhere if they said they would.

I guess I mostly let it go when it happens. I remember it, and it colors my further interactions with that person, but I don't do anything dramatic. I rarely even cry about it.
