![]() | My Thanksgiving at the beach Hello. I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving! My uncle has a house on the beach in Sunset Beach, which for those of you who don't know is about a 20 minute drive from the DLR and sits just north of Huntington Beach. He used to live in Monterey Park and has had this beach house ever since the 1950s as a summer home, but for the last 10 - 20 years has since moved here full time. Since my real grandfather passed away many years before I was born (my uncle was in the 8th grade at the time) he has been like my surrogate grandfather and our family has spent many Thanksgivings at the beach house. I took some pictures of DIP Jr and his cousins playing at the shore. Because I had to pick up DIP Jr in the late afternoon from his mother the pictures are dark, but I think all of them playing together was so precious! And I think they are kind of dark in an artsy way anyway. The tide was very low, maybe due to the rains we had that morning I don't know. But it was the lowest tide I've ever seen in years -- ever since the days when I was a kid when our family used to go clam digging there and then my aunt would take the clams and make the best clam chowder you would ever have tasted! Unfortunately in 2008 the low tide revealed some rather disgusting debris -- an old Firestone tire and even an office chair! I have no idea where those came from -- most likely from the barges offshore bringing in goods to the Port of Long Beach or maybe washed down from the San Gabriel River, at least those are my guesses. Anyway. Here are the pictures. Enjoy. And I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
