Re: Too old to Trick or Treat

I was in 8th grade the last time I went TorT'ng. This year The Boy and his friends have all decided to be Star Wars characters. TB is going as Anakin, his friend across the street is Darth Vader and the other 2 are Yoda and Darth Maul. The only kids we get are the ones from around here. At 8-8:30ish I pull in all of the decorations and turn the lights off for the night. It amazes me that kids will still go to a door when the light isn't on.

I voted before I saw the never too old option. I choose that one. I love to dress up in costume... (I guess that's why I love the costumed characters at Disneyland.) ... I think I'll also get a lot of girls with my Wonka costume this year... ahem. Anywho I stopped Trick or Treating in 8th grade, but have never stopped dressing up to greet the kiddies.

Re: Too old to Trick or Treat

My friends and I pretty much stopped going out about 7th grade. After that, we would still dress up, but would stay home and hand out candy to the little kids, or walk down main street and let the whole town know we were total dorks. (It was the 70s, the total population of the town was like 3000 so yeah, we were the only teenage weirdos out on halloween.) With my own daughter, I would usually dress too when I took her out (until I uh, outgrew all my adult costumes), but she and her friends kept going out all through high school. She is almost 24 now, and still dresses for halloween, but she and her fiance go to partys at friends.

I still dress up- love it!! But I don't think Davis and Braden are still door to door T or T age any more....Rose and Ian are though- so we will all likely go together, again, unless Davis has other plans.

Re: Too old to Trick or Treat

I love dressing up, I still do every year with my kids...in fact it's a big famly event the kids pick what they each want to be...someimes it coordinates...someimes not but my hubby and I always are some sort of odd couple Angel/Devil, Dorothy/Scarecrow, 2 pirates, and on and on.

We dress up to take them ToTing (but since we moved Hubby will stay home and hand out treats...he can't wait!!!

To answer the question...the last time I trick or treated for myself I was 14(and it broke my heart to stop )

but I give candy to anyone who knocks, but I like the idea of the crappy candy for the ones not in cotume....

Re: Too old to Trick or Treat

I think teenagers are too old to trick or treat - unless they're taking a younger one out - then they get Pity candy. By the time we were in Middle School Halloween parties were The thing to do.
I am neatly sidestepping this issue with my 13 yo by taking her to the Knott's Haunt!
I'd let her answer the door and give out candy, but living out in the boonies you don't get ANY trick or treaters. It's about the only time of year I wished we lived in town.

Re: Too old to Trick or Treat

Well, I T or T'd through high school. Senior year ws our big blowout - I got a bunch of friends (a few who I never thought would go for it!) and we dressed up as characters from Peter Pan and Hook. It was AWESOME. We went in neighborhoods wher the people knew us. I don't think that's too old at all, as long as you put some sort of effort into it.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...
