Question K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

Does anyone own one of these? What are your thoughts and experiences? Is one better than the other?

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

My aunt has one and she says it's a pain in the butt when she has company... you can't amke a pot of coffee.. you have to stand there and use a fresh pod for each cup. :/ That's about all that I know.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

I didn't really care for it. Did you know a cup of coffee is only about 6 ounces? I ended up using too many pods to fill my cup.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

The ex's friend owned a coffee/water delivery service and she swore by the Keurig machines. Said they were the best and had the best choice of pods.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

Thanks for the input...

I don't have to worry about people over... have another coffee maker, but thanks MissV.

I was a bit concerned that it would make too small and too weak a cup of coffee... thanks justjohn.

ESM... I've heard the Keurig is one of the best.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

We have a Keurig here, and absolutely love it. You can also select what size of cup you want, which also determines the strength. And when you have people over, and want to use this instead of a traditional coffee maker, it only takes 20 sec. to make a cup. And they really do have a great selection of coffees.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

We have the Keurig and LOVE IT! We had another one (with the little bags of coffee) and the coffee sucked. Then we went back to a normal coffee maker, it was a mess, got the Keurig. So great!

Here's the list of why it is awesome:
-for like 60 cents a cup you have Starbucks quality coffee in your house (and you don't have to get dressed, drive to Starbucks, and drive back just for a cup of coffee).
-It's fast fresh coffee. It's not like getting the last cup in the coffee pot. Ew. Never.
-When company comes over they can make they're own cup and the whole things amazes them (seriously we had a Christmas/Holiday party here, set up the Keurig on a butcher block/island, with a few cup trees, different types of coffees and teas, and coffee stuff it was the hit of the party.).
-If you have people who don't drink the same type of coffee it's not a hassle to make one pot of regular, then one pot of decaf. Like in my house I drink regular (I like the black diamond extra bold.), my mom drinks decaf, and my dad is a tea drinker. That would be a PITA without the Keurig.
-If you're lazy (like me) you can not put a pod in the machine, press the 6 ounce button, and get hot water for your oatmeal. Sweet!
-You can use the MyKcup to put your own special coffee blends...

It's just easy. We got rid of our old coffee pot, so during the weekends my dad and I make a big pot of cowboy coffee just to have a pot of coffee around the house and like it.

Sorry for the babble. But seriously coffee is a big thing for me (it keeps me happy) and I need a good coffee pot (a little work horse) and this totally does the trick.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

Thanks so much Kim! Your post is very helpful! (How many cups did you have before you wrote that? ) The most appealing part of this is that I can have REAL coffee and hubby can do decaf. But I wasn't sure how much per cup is really cost with the little pods.

Thanks Dland_lover... 20 seconds is just about right to get me out the door to work!

Can you buy the pods anywhere?

That post sounded a little manic didn't it? Today in total I've had 8 cups? I had a full day in school so that attributes to it (and I'm on heavy duty iron supplements which make me too energetic). If you go to Keurig's website you can become a member of their coffee club and you get discounts, I think my mom gets an extra box or two every so often for joining, and Green Mountain has a club that gets you free stuff too. And if you order more than $45 worth it's free shipping. I just checked the website and for $13.95 you get 24 pods, and depending on the type of coffee you get you can use your pods twice (we get the extra bolds so that works really well). It's $0.58 per single pod so figure $0.29 per cup if you use it twice...

And you sound like your situation is like ours one drinks decaf, one likes regular it makes it simple.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

As NNL said, it also makes tea, but it also does hot cocoa.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

The first time I ever saw one of these (the Keurig) was at my dentist's office (he's great - free coffee, free bottle of water, free cookie). I loved it. Then I went to my friend's house for a bridal shower and lo and behold her husband had gotten one - he loves coffee. My favorite blend is Vermont Country, or something like that. I'd get one but for just me who only drinks one, maybe two cups a day, it's too expensive.

Re: K-Cup / Pod Coffee Makers

Just putting in my two cents...We have a Keurig and love it as well. Love the fresh coffee aspect. I drink regular and my husband drinks decaf, so we can both have coffee and the same time.

Get one, you will love it!
