Wisdom found in the oddest places

This morning as I'm enjoying my Starbucks, I notice a quote on my cup. A very awesome quote. And then I start to wonder, when did they start getting all philosophical on my coffee cup??? Has it been awhile? I generally get cold coffee (Iced Americano) so I don't generally see the regular cups.

And of course, if it gives an idea for a thread on MiceChat, it's gotta be worth it.

So what are some awesome quotes or pearls of wisdom you have found in odd places, or even normal ones?

Here is the quote I had this morning:

You can shower a child with presents or money, but what do they really mean, compared to the most valuable gift of all - your time? Vacations and special events are nice, but so often the best moments are the spontaneous ones. Being there. Every moment you spend with your child could be the one that really matters. - Tim Russert

Actually, it has been for quite a few years. They come from many different sources - much variety in what you may find.

Eddie: You mean to tell me you could have taken your hand out of those cuffs at any time?
Roger: Not at any time. Only when it's funny.

That is a great quote, Clinks, and one that too many parents ignore.

I love quotes....I kinda collect them. I have a little folder on my computer full of the ones I like the most.

One of my favorites, came from a very strange place....Robin Williams.

"You're only given one spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."

To me, it's the essence of what me and my husband live by...never grow up. Never lose that ability to laugh at life, or at yourself. Don't take everything so seriously. Be crazy! Be silly! Be fun! Be different!

    I love that quote Stitchy!

    Great thread idea clinks!

I've only heard a couple, honestly, my favorites, I have no idea where they originated but here you go.

"Life is as unpredictable as a grapefruit squirt."

"Smile, it's the second best thing you can do with your lips."

    and my favorite,

"Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die tomorrow." - James Dean

That quote seems especially meaningful given the rather unexpected nature of Russert's own death.

This quote is a favorite, not necessarily my very favorite, just one that's well known and that comes to mind...

"Life is what happens to you, while you're busy making other plans..."

    -- John Lennon (Beautiful Boy)

And I've seen quotes on Starbucks cups going back to at least when they first invaded Southern California in the mid-90's. In my area, they started with a coffee cart inside Barnes and Noble before they started putting stores in.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

My favorite of all time that I stand by constantly is:
"If you can reach out to another, you can hold the world in your hand." - J. Clessius

I view this one as a friendship and volunteering quote more than it's original intention which is love.
