My Car Pool Buddy got a speeding ticket

Hey, my carpoolie got a ticket today while I was with her.

I wasn't encouraging her to speed or anything. Am I responsible for part of the ticket? I really have no idea any advice would be welcome.

You were only a passenger. The driver is 100% responsible for any violations or driving infractions they commit.

No, you are not responsible for the ticket. She was in complete control of the vehicle while driving, you had nothing to do with it. It was her error.

Unless your foot was on the pedal and your hands on the wheel, then no, you are not responsible for HER actions.

Now if you were asking her to speed in order to get YOU somewhere in a hurry, then you might have a moral obligation to pay for her ticket, but you and I both know that the true "cost" of the citation does not end with paying just for that (insurance rates, driving points, etc...).

Good luck!

Did the person ask for you to help? That would be pretty odd if they did.

You're not even honor bound to help out. You could offer, out of friendship or just to be nice, but I see no reason why you'd be obligated. Her car, her fault.

She was in control of the speed, so she should pay for it all.

Re: My Car Pool Buddy got a speeding ticket

Put the shoe on the other foot. If it was your turn to drive and received a speeding ticket would expect your car pool pals to pay part of it? Most likely not.

You're not responsible for the ticket. Don't even offer. Yeah, sucks she got a ticket, feel bad about that if you want to, but it's not your fault and it's not your responsibility to help pay it.

I'd be kind of worried about carpooling with someone who got a speeding ticket. Just how fast was she going?

She was speeding. She got the ticket. She has to pay. End of story.

Seriously? You need not feel guilty. It was the driver's fault.

So that explains why I never got a check from you and Anders for my speeding ticket.

I agree with everyone who has posted. It was her foot on the pedal, it's her responsibility.
