why do you think they did this?

we have had burger king here in Australia for over 10 years. At first they were called burger King, and then a few stores popped up called Hungry Jacks. After a few years they changed all the Burger Kings into Hungry Jacks. I CANNOT get used to calling them hungry jacks, they will always be burger king to me. When people ask why I call the burger king I point out the fine print on the wrappers and cups that says "trademark of burger king" or something like that LOL LOL LOL

Hungry Jack's - The burgers are better

click on "about hungry jacks" for the story.

I can't understand why they don't call it burger king!!!

Re: why do you think they did this?

That is weird. Maybe they just wanted a separate name from the American franchise?

They're trying to confuse everyone. Once that's accomplished, they're going to steal everyone's underpants, sell them to the underpants gnomes.

Re: why do you think they did this?

Burger King is an English franchise, unless Australia is trying to distance itself from the UK.

Re: why do you think they did this?

It's because Burger King sucks so they figure a new name will make it better.

Maybe???

Re: why do you think they did this?

Well, you question got me thinking, and before long I could'nt help myself and had to do some reasearch. this is what I was able to find, i think it answers the question.

When Burger King moved to expand its operations into Australia, it found that its business name was already trademarked by a takeaway food shop in Adelaide.[1] As a result, Burger King provided the Australian franchisee, Jack Cowin, with a list of possible alternative names derived from pre-existing trademarks already registered by Burger King and its then corporate parent Pillsbury that could be used to name the Australian restaurants. Cowin selected the "Hungry Jack" brand name, one of Pillsbury's US pancake mixture products, and slightly changed the name to a possessive form by adding an apostrophe 's' forming the new name Hungry Jack's.[2] The first Australian franchise of Burger King Corporation was established in Innaloo Perth on the 18th of April 1971, under the auspices of Cowin's new company Hungry Jack's Pty, Limited.[3]
